Rusty Red

I was in Pismo with my 1UZ and was running with Tommy in his SC 3.4 through the beach whoop section. I could pull him off the line and through mid range but once his SC wound up he would start walking away.

If you buy a Sequoia I may be interested in the body to keep as a spare

I’ve heard this supercharger works on the 3.4 and I’d have to find the company that makes the adapter plate for mounting. Don’t quote me though I’m not an engine guy but there was some posts about this as an affordable option.

Loophole to keep CA registration. I did it for many years with my Taco. Go to AAA and tell them I can't smog the truck since my bro's borrowing it in Texas. Fill out statement of facts saying who has it, address, Which i would makeup and use one I looked up on zillow before since they were moving and if anything went there it's to diff people anyways, couldn't register it since he lived in a trailer at work, and wouldn't be back in Cali for 9 months. They would give me a 1 yr smog waiver since truck was out of the state, then I would do it again the next year and so on. Keeps my Cali plates for my taco with Supercharger, headers, no cats and fuel cell. Now I register in South Dakota because they want over $300 a yr for my 95 F150 and my 03 2500HD so way cheaper and no smog. Living in desert no cops to care either.

^ That only works for so many years though before they (CA) require you to bring it back to CA for a smog, or register it in that other state.

Yeah I only did it for 4 years before I moved to AZ and dgaf about smog and totaled truck when in AZ.

Performance / turboing / tuning the 5vz has been pretty popular on the TW 1st gen forum over the past 10 years I've been on the threads. I'm not doing things that would make my truck unable to jump into any smog station to pass, but if I didn't care, I'd go this route. I'm tempted still to buy a standalone just for the SC and use my backup harness to use with my stock ecu each smog check session.

Worked for me for about 10 years, even had the wife proficient doing it at AAA. Only once did AAA bug me about changing the primary residence on the insurance but they were good with me saying nah.

^ You guys lucked-out!
IIRC, they shut JosB down after about 4 yrs or so. Maybe AAA is a little more lenient (although not the one in Victorville, theyve got a chick there thats a damn nazi and gets all shitty about people "scamming CA out of money so thats why they continuously have to raise the fees/costs...". Get fucked lady, this states just robbing people at this point)

I’m not a power snob, contrary to what people think of me putting a 6.0L in my truck. I did it because it’s SO much easier to drive. Long highway stretches are way easier being able to pass without downshifting and the truck screaming just to pass a few mph faster than the person in front. Also helps offroad for getting on top of whoop sections out of turns.
This is basically why I am doing this. Even with 5:29 gears, my 3.4 works HARD to maintain freeway speeds. The constant shifting between 3rd and 4th gear isn’t good for the transmission and it really annoying.

Off-road, it really doesn’t need more power 75% of the time. There are times, sand and steep sections where more power would be welcomed.

Also it would be really nice to build speed more quickly to stay on top of bumps. I’m pretty in tune with what this truck is capable of and a lot of times I have to slow down because I don’t have to power to maintain the speed I need to stay in the “zone”.

Both cool options, but forced induction requires more tuning and fabrication than I am willing to do.

There is also the complications of another mechanical system to maintain and the heat associated with forced induction options. I do love turbo noise though.

Hopefully picking up a Sequoia soon and prepping the wife for having another car in the garage. Especially since parts will be flying off it at an alarming rate.

I have been searching non stop for a donor Tundra or Sequoia, but have difficulty finding one that was reasonably priced or didn’t have 400k miles on it.

An early Tundra is the best choice because there is no “immobilizer” built into the ecu. They are also super close electronically to the Tacoma. Tundra’s get driven to death because they refuse to die. They also hold their value like crazy.

I found this very Rusty 2000 Tundra in Santa Monica for $2k and was sure it was going to sell immediately. Seller told me it was sold and he was holding it for a buyer. I kept shopping and saw another add for it from the same seller. Seller told me his buyer flaked and he needed it gone. Told him I could be there in a few hours, he said come get it.

Drove to Santa Monica from Ventura. It was just as rusty as I expected. Motor and trans operate like they should, albeit loud with the open exhaust. Someone loved this thing at some point. Found tons of service records in the OG owners manual, even with the fancy Toyota stamp.

Plan is to pull the drivetrain and interior bits I need, get whatever money I can from it then scrap the rest. I’ll clean up and maintenance the motor (timing belt, seals, gaskets etc).

Once that is all done, I’ll swap it in and do an engine cage at the same time. Progress will come and go as I get garage time.

I’m sure I will struggle to get it right, but it will be worth it in the end.IMG_4901.jpegIMG_4900.jpegIMG_4899.jpegIMG_4898.jpegIMG_4897.jpeg

If the immobilzer/PATS is like the tacoma/4runner ECU, its just a single ground wire that allows that circuit to operate. Dont ground it, it wont operate as intended. (Although if you put it on a switch it would be a nice kill-switch)

If you want it, I have the later plastic intake manifold, throttle body adapter, and new pink injectors I ran on mine before deciding to supercharge it. I liked how it drove afterwards and it was way lighter than the aluminum manifold. I also have a ported aluminum one. We are moving to a new house right now and I don't really want to move this shit and store it again.

No, the Sequioa uses a chipped key with a “transducer” ring around the ignition to pick up the chip in the key. You must have the correct key to make it work. The system can be programmed out of the ECU, but it’s a couple hundred bucks. The Tundra has no such system.

The plastic manifold and injectors sound perfect. I like the lighter weight. PM me for my cell so we can figure out cost/shipping etc. I’ll probably pick your brain about the 2UZ since you have been working on it way more than me.
