Pearl, the 93' Explorer

Fun weekend in expo

Chiva falls run with the family saturday morning. Got a good monsoon tuesday night so we were hoping there was still water flowing. It was barely trickling but better than nothing. Water was refreshingly cold

Steering wheel adapter came in saturday afternoon so I decided to swap on the nrg quick release and wheel I had laying around. Doesn’t feel like driving a school bus anymore lol. Easier done than said - no steering wheel puller needed or any special tools

Epic day doing some crawling

I was unsure if the LSD worked or not after I rebuilt it… found out today it works awesome. Climbed some challenging lines and added some more damage to the body and bumpers 🤘🏼

Cody’s explorer was having hub locking issues and was not able to make it up the line that I did. Everyone please make fun of @BATTEN

My front bumper took a beating 😂 Time to hit a junkyard and get a new one

How does the depth compare to the stock wheel? What is the part number on the adapter.

Sorry, I keep forgetting to measure but I can just tell you how it feels. My setup now has a hub adapter (NRG SRK-174H), a quick release adapter, and an NRG flat wheel. It feels comfortable, but sticks out a more than I'd like. I have to reach for the turn signals and shifter. My brother in law @gascapkevin ran the same hub adapter but instead used just a deep dish steering wheel (no quick release) and seems to be just about perfect 👌

Thank you, I'm not a small human so I need all the space I can get lol

Well its been a fucking rollercoaster of a ride for the explorer this week.

Bought a junkyard bumper last Friday. Test fit it, pulled it completely apart, had it sand blasted, then even reinforced it with square tubing. Bought some fancy White Alloy Armor to paint it with. Took my time and had the paint looking great.

Decided to take it out for a sunset cruise near my house tonight. Then the fucking unbelievable happened after 5 minutes in the dirt.

Ran into a cable going too fast to stop in time and bent the living shit out of the brand new bumper and front fenders. All the brackets are bent too so not saveable. I can’t even comprehend how I just spent a week building a perfect bumper just to destroying it within minutes.

For anyone who believes in fate, what the fuck does this mean? 🤣 Time to build an actual bumper? So bummed right now lol

That sucks dude…. 😓

if your going for a stock look and don’t want to build bumper. I’m doing a tube sub frame on the inside of the stock bumper. A bit more robust than the stock mounts but looks clean.

… not sure it would have saved the bumper in your case but maybe something to consider

That sucks and would be super frustrating.

Is that common to have a random cable across a dirt road out there?

Did you cut the cable for the next guy?

Thats kind of what I did with this one. But I only reinforced the center section in between the frame rails. The next one is either going to be left stock OR fully built, I can’t decide if I want to put any more effort into a 3rd bumper 😂
