1993 Camburg ranger build.

The ranger trans I rebuilt has been working great, started driving it more on the streets and quickly realized the 4 row Amazon radiator with the electric fan just isn’t enough cooling for this thing on long up hills. So I did some research and ditched the 19lb cap for the stock 13lb cap to help slow the flow down. I also swapped to a severe duty fan clutch and traditional shroud. Everything has been so much more stable and I can run the shit out of the truck and temps aren’t budging which is great.IMG_9176.jpeg

Rangers love the mechanical fan. Fun story, i raced my ranger with a v8 and ron davis with mechanical fan from an explorer for years and years and never had a cooling issue. New owner lawn darted the truck and pushed the motor into the radatior fairly soon after buing it. After that he had cooling issues forever, as everyone told him to run electric fans. Then tried bigger radiators and never got it sorted, i got a few calls during that period trying to figure out what was wrong with the truck. They never wanted to go back to a mechanical fan as they swore it wouldnt of helped and it just needed bigger radiators.

This makes sense! I was so reluctant cause this thing is a snail on power. But you know what if driving it on the streets it was getting hot I was thinking in a sand wash this thing is gonna cook. What v8 did you have? And what trans?

rather be a bit low on power and it still driving vs a bit more power and warped heads. lol
I put a 302 in with gt40 heads and a cam with a built c4 behind it. I was told it would never work and overheat all the time, but it was super reliable for me.

Can’t remember if you have an actual temp gauge or if you’re using the factory one. Do you know what temps you’re looking at? Mine with a CBR that’s like 31x16/as wide as the damn chassis and has dual spals is running like 190. Which is about the regular temp range depending on thermostat. Teaching my nephew how to drive it I forgot to turn the radiator fans on and thing was at like 250 😅 cooled down insanely quick with the fans tho.

I’m still using the factory gauges just cause it makes it easy. I’m gonna drill and tap the trans pan for a temp gauge. Yah! I figured it would take 2 spal fans to make it cool properly! I wanna check your truck out up close I know you spent some time dialing in the wiring

I plan to eventually do some sort of v8 like that! I like the idea of a 302 haha I was thinking a c6 for durability? I just have to do more research and see what motors are compatible. I also thought about doing explorer swap, don’t those motors have gt40 heads on them?

explorers have GT40P heads, so different exhaust ports, and about all I know. lol
