Ugly Little Truck

Trying to do one or two things a day since the weather is beautiful after work.

Engine cross brace and hood are on. Slightest bit of room between the brace and intake plenum. Brace and hood are making out, but fenders line up so I’m not worried. Sleeved the crossbrace since the tube was from my scrap pile and already had bends it was just too long. If I ever need to take the plenum off I’ll add flanges or couplers at that point.

Hope that's not needed mid-trip. I've had to replace a fuel injector seal once which required removing the manifold. NAPA has the parts but cutting that out and welding it back in at camp would add complexity.

Dimple plates look good. I would grind that corner of the tower to round it into the front vertical plate so it's got a nice transition for looks.

Yeah that's a good idea, I'll probably do that. When I modeled the towers in SW I should have made the bend for the tab inset so it meets with that side plate. I couldn't bend the 1/4" tight enough

Trying to check at least one thing off the list each day.

1. Mount fuse block
2. Clean up under hood wiring
3. Figure out intake tube
4. Make upper core support mounts off shock towers
5. Modify headlamp buckets to work
6. Mount ARB compressor for lockers
7. Build bumper with winch mount
8. Restore/install lights and wire them in
9. New ARB air line to front locker
10. New shifter bushings (already have them)
11. New clutch master and slave cylinders (already have them)

Here's the plated in front cross member.

It's coming along strong. You should paint that header panel before you get too far though, the E-coat will start to surface rust before long. At least mine did. And cut those leaf spring hangars off already. They are going to be crazy rock anchors.

what if he wants to swap it back to leafs?

Lookin good Kevin!

Thanks Brandon!

Good call on painting. I'll shoot it when I paint all the raw metal.

PS: Don't tell me what to do. I'm procrastinating cutting them because there's no easy way to do it cleanly

I've thought about leaving them for flat towing purposes?

Thanks Brandon!

You will smoke those right there....even mine on the front of the frame have taken a beating from Rubicon and hammers.

True. I really just don't feel like cutting them off haha. That's the biggest reason. I can't find a way to do it (easily) that will give a clean surface. Otherwise I'd just cut the whole lower leaf spring cross brace, but it's also welded from the back side and will be terrible to cut out. I'll figure out a way to get rid of the spring hangers. Maybe cut them flush with the box tube and box it all in?

I'm not sure there's a better way than to fire up the plasma and cut as close as you can before burning through a few flapdisks to make it clean. Of course yours will likely hang up on 10 rocks before my pile gets out of the garage, At least cut the ears flush with the tube.
