Power Tanks, On Board Air Systems...What Are You Using?

I have one of those Milwaukee compressors. And I use it all the time. I have a smittybilt 12v Compressor that I use when I went to Baja. And what spring with me? When I'm hauling my trailer since it is faster. And more powerful. But the milwaukee has done everything i've needed it to.

I currently have arrear tire on my sequoia that drops 10 psi or so a week so I keep this in there To top it off and not have to drive back to my Shop and Run the hose out the door

Anyone using one of the Milwaukee air compressors? I've been a big fan of Milwaukee products, but hesitant to go battery powered for reliability reasons. Mostly concerned with how long a bettery lasts in one of these things.

I used to have a little portable Viair 88p that clamped onto the battery posts and I loved it. 10/10 would recommend.

But now that I'm in the market again 🤷‍♂️

My parents got me this pump for my birthday this year and I tried using it this past weekend. Flipped the switch and nothin'.
ALL-TOP Air Compressor Kit

Ended up using Lance's Milwaukee pump and it's AWESOME. Set it and forget it. Went through two batteries.

Went through two batteries in a good way or bad way?

Whichever way you think it is? I think only two batteries to fill four 35" tires from 17psi-35psi is great. I would have expected more.
In other news, last night I tried the pump my parents got me and it worked. I wonder if the piston was stuck from shipping. Anyways, I aired down to 20psi in one tire and filled it up to 35 in around a minute

Oh I thought maybe you meant like it was the life of the party and EVERYONE was loving it and using it and you went through two batteries before you knew it haha.

Yeah by the sounds of it I think I'll go with a more reliable power source and get another Viair pump. I like to take my tools out of my truck when I use it for personal reasons (not work) and so I'd probably only keep one battery on me and plugged into the compressor (which would also drain the battery slowly as it is as well). I get pretty far out there when I go camping. Would hate to have to drive canyon roads home on 15 psi with tall skinnies 😬

Thanks for all the feedback! Glad your other pump kicked on!

Picked up a Milwaukee M12 cordless for my work truck the other day. Used it on a trailer tire at work and it kicked ass. Have yet to throw it at something substantial.

I have a smittybuilt compressor that I use everyday for the week I was in baja.

I also have an up milwauke m18 Compressor and use that almost daily It kicks ass, set psi and walk away

I saw this on sale. Seems like the specs are pretty good for the price.

I have a both Viair pump and a 40 lbs CO2 bottle. The Viair has been pretty reliable although the bag it sits in is trash and the plastic air filter broke off. The CO2 bottle is super fast but heavy and cumbersome.

I find myself grabbing the electric pump more often because of its size. The extra time it takes to fill my tires allows me to drink one more beer before we head home.

I used one of those a couple times then used a friend's m18 and was sold. The m18 airs up faster and the big 12.0 battery I got does dozen tires before it needs a charge. Plus I got a lot of m18 tools already and only 4 m12 china batteries too for my house cordless tool set or my reamer for the shop.

Those dual head compressors I'm sure are all made by the same China factory and numerous vendors got them to private label them for them off ali baba. I'm sure in the next 4 or 5 months you'll see numerous other copycat and whatever brand stands by their products will prevail.

I had the Smittybilt one for around 6-7 years and never had any complaints. Used it to air up 33-35” tires from anywhere between 10-18psi to around 35 or so. I’d made a hose that connects to two tires at once, the smittybilt would get hotter than an exhaust manifold but never quit, even with a few trucks back to back.

It finally died last winter when I had some electrical issues and accidentally shorted the positive wire to the compressor, so I decided to replace it with a dual piston one from “Alltop” on Amazon. Seems to be the same basic compressors as most the dual piston ones from china. I used a buddies Tireflate brand one after mine died, and was sold on the power. Aired up all 4 of my 315’s from 10psi to 35 in about 4 minutes flat.

Had both the smittybilt and now the all top one mounted in my bed side cubby on the Tacoma. Keep the hose in side the cab!

I've been going between using my Land Cruiser and my Tacoma a lot so I took my two Viair 444C compressors and put them in the medium size Apache case from HF. They fit nicely and I can roll up the jumpers to the battery, an ARB fill chuck, a blow nozzle, and a 25ft hose in it. Stays safe in the back of the truck on trips without any worry. The cases are super decent for the price.

Another vote for the Milwaukee M18 inflator. We have one for my kids Ranger. Just toss it in the bed mounted Milwaukee Pack out system.
One 12AH or even a 8AH battery will fill up his 35's. Granted its a Prerunner so most of the time we are only taking the tire pressure from the mid 20's to 35 PSI. But one battery is more than enough to do all 4 tires. He had a slow leak on one of his 37's on his Duramax. Was no problem airing it up from 35 PSI to 50 PSI. Also remember that battery condition plays a lot on how long the battery will last. A older battery that's been cycled a lot in its life span will defentitly will drain faster.

I have a Tsunami in the bronco and a Bauer HF compressor for the explorer. Both have never let me down. Are the slow? Yes. But I don’t have to remember to get a tank filled. I have the worst memory.

That knock off ARB compressor looks really appealing though.

I’ve lived with multiple cheap clip on the battery setups and if you like simple and aren’t a gadget addict they are fine.

I keep going back to my M18 compressor.

I always air up “just enough” to drive home then top off with the shop compressor at home.

IMHO it’s silly to ask a cheap compressor to get your 33-40s up to 40+ psi.

I have a powertank setup I bough for work and have never taken it off roading.

On a long point to point trip with multiple road sections I’ll bring the powertank. Like a big Utah trip where you do 100miles of dirt, air up for a 50 mile pavement stint, then back to dirt 3-4x the powertank will be clutch. Otherwise it’s just too bulky for me.

The M18 is so damn handy day to day, I use it out in the driveway on the wife’s Subaru if I don’t want to stretch out the hose from the shop comp.

I used it in the desert yesterday to top off a low tire on the kids SxS.

I keep the m18 in my rig all the time and with a 6.0 battery it lasts a very long time.

I carry an M18 impact gun and usually a small work light/flood light so I always have 2-3 batteries with me anyway.

Best perk of the M18 is you set the desired psi and walk away. So you can easily do 1 tire at a time while you clean up camp.

IMHO anyone with Milwaukee tools won’t regret the m18 compressor. If you watch the deals they are affordable. My local plumbing supply house has a deal right now, buy 2x 6.0 batteries for $229 and get the m18 compressor for free.

FWIW my buddy professionally installs ARBs all the time and he swears these amazon ones come from the same factory.

I just bought the middle one for my air locker compressor. I think it was $139 with a coupon. I think it is too small for a tire inflator but the double should be rad. And it is currently $252 instead of $310.
I wouldn't mind getting the Moorflate dual to replace my Shittybuilt onboard compressor at some point. They have fantastic customer service, are based in California, and if I am not mistaken the company was started by someone on Pitate4x4.

This is awesome. Details on what you used and how you made it?
