What to pack? Tips-tricks

Bumping this thread-

So when you guys go to the desert- what are you using to transport spare parts, fluids etc etc? Im not talking about packing tools in your race truck /prerunner. Im talking service stuff- Larger parts, bulk fluids, nitrogen kits, etc.

I have used totes in the past but i felt like i was always having to shuffle through them to get what i need and they would be a mess at the end of the trip.

I have one of the husky packout rollers i was planning to use for larger tools and bigger items, possibly a tote or two for fluids and extension cords/lights etc.

Interested to see what you guys are using. I have also considered mounting a larger tool box/job box to my trailer for these items.
I carry automotive fluids in a Front Runner box. I also have a modified box that holds about 7 gallons of water... that one is only packed for long trips with lots of "off-grid" time. The trick for keeping it from not becoming a shit show is to give everything a home. Otherwise, things just go everywhere and, eventually, everything goes anywhere... shite show. Been there done that!

Post and pic on fluids box:
I had to get into the fluids box in the Bronco… thought I’d snap a photo. I use these Nalgene containers because they‘re space-efficient and a lot more durable than a regular quart of oil.

I now use the containers SteveG recommends for fluids, those and Milwaukee pack out containers have been a game changer

Those are way cooler than the narrow mouth 1L nalgines I have at work. The square bottles I could get my hands on are PETG (and also narrow mouth). I might have to start bringing home some used ones to see how they fit in my Fluids tote.

The Nalgene bottles I use are fantastic. I have yet to hurt one and they pack well in the Front Runner boxes

What's everyone running for Socket and Wrench sets? I need to build a tool kit for 4 runner. Was leaning Harbor Freight for basic kit and then just add in the odd ball stuff that's needed.

4Runner:
10mm
12mm
14mm
17mm
19mm
22mm
32mm
^^^On a socket rail. Nothing more, nothing less.

Throw in a universal joint, some extensions and matching open end wrenches(need 2x 12mm and 14mm wrenches) and throw everything else away.

Internet hug!!

Why carry an 11mm socket that, at best, will be used to pound out a u-joint cap or some shit? Only thing an 11mm wrench is good for on a Toyota crawler is to weld to a broken tierod end as a gusset…

Throw ONLY THE TOOLS NEEDED FOR YOUR VEHICLE in a BucketBoss tool roll and live a happy Toyota life!

Edit:
When making a vehicle-specific tool kit, I do a full prep using only the tools I carry to make sure I have everything needed.

Came here to ask this same question. Had my old set of tools stolen a few years ago and I replaced it with a newer craftsman set that I tried to get used to but never really liked, so I just sold that and I'm starting from scratch. Was thinking harbor freight and some tool rolls but I did like that my original set had the rotomolded plastic case that clearly labeled everything. I was looking at maybe a Milwaukee set but can't beat the price of Harbor Freight.

Slowly piecing tools together. Still have some stuff to add.

off top of my head
-Multimeter
-snap ring plyers
-spare Bolts
-Punch
-pry bar
-mini sled Hammer
-jumper cables
- wire /butt connectors/ fuses.
- Spare relays from parted out truck

These things are pretty rad. and they fit into the Poly Performance tool bag perfect.

I totally get that and used to pack that way. I've been saved by a friend that carries common spares so that he can help other people, not only his own mechanical breakdowns. I appreciated it so much that I do the same... a few extra tools and more complete sizes so I can help others in a crunch.

Y E S ! ! !

I do this often. With the Bronco and my bike... work on it with the tools you carry so you know it works!
