What do you do for work ?

I am a few years older than you, and been at my company for a few years more than you. But i mimic this same thought. I made our company 6 mil in sales last year.

Our company is changing as the owner is looking to retire, and its just not the same company. All about the $ now vs the work we do.

But i also wonder if we are just at a pivitol point in our career that makes all this difficult.
1. we are half way through our lives
2. i am not as motivated anymore, maybe because the changes, maybe because i have peaked in my job growth here, maybe because i have kids and am realizing its not 100% about work anymore, and most about fun.
3. we have worked 1 place half our lives, and its just annoying and old.

I dont know about you, but i am ready for more fun and less work in my life.

Im in a small town in Northern Ontario with a population less than 60K, we have a staff of 7 total, we are constantly short staffed because all of us have like 4+ weeks of paid holidays.

Last month I said to my boss I need help, I cant keep up this pace. His responce was - "youve been here the longest, you should be able to handle everything on your own!"

That comment pretty much killed any motivation I had left.

Im ready for less stress and more enjoyment, my retirement plan is to move to Ensenada, but that still too many years out!

I've done automotive / heavy truck / equipment parts for over 20 years, and I'm so damn burnt out on it. I don't matter as a person, just that dollar figure I put on paper each day. (1.9m for the year so far)

Cope or Quit, hard decision at 40.
I’ve recently had kind of the same situation arise where I’m in a position that I don’t really love but it pays the bills. 2 years away from 40 it has me in a place where I’m pursuing options because I want to find something I could enjoy and not be changing jobs when I’m older than I am now. Good luck to you!

I work for a big ol water company here in LA

Big pipes, big valves, etc.

Let me see if I can guess a few of the pics. Sepulveda HDEP under the needle valves? Ruben on the crane? 42" plug valve at MSU valve shop La Verne? Guessing Cheeseborough welding the rebar? How far off am I ???

Been in local government for 23 years, mostly in LB. Now in Southbay (LA) managing the Solid Waste, Wastewater, Streetsweeping operation with 57 unwanted CHILDREN :)

Are any of you savages civil or structural engineers? I’m hiring a field engineer position that must be based out of Phoenix, SLC, or Denver. We get access to all the tools you want and a free truck.
