Toyotally Awesome 1987 4Runner

This is an older thread with some dead links and missing photobucket pics but there is lots of good info in it still. https://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=19275.1380

If you don't need to drop the trans, I wouldn't. Are you making your own engine mounts or buying some?

You going to keep the A/C?
Thanks dude. I'll scope it.

Yea not really sure what my though process was with dropping the cases but I need both drive lines serviced. So driveshafts need to come of any way.

I picked up the Chilkat engine mounts and I'm planning on running the stock motor mounts with a limit strap or chain like @mobil1syn linked earlier in this thread. I have the Bombproof ones in now and I'm pretty over the vibration already.

Planning on keeping A/C

Got timing chain and valve cover gasket in the mail

Had a little window this weekend between kids Hockey and birthday parties to get the Motor sprayed down with degreaser and power washed off. next week when im back from phx I'll be installing the timing chain and getting the 22re the rest of the way out of there.

I’m about to put a 38 lb flywheel in my 1st Gen Tacoma with the 5vz V6 along with an Aisin clutch kit. Here’s a thread with someone putting one on their 2nd Gen Tacoma with a 2.7 2TR (basically a 3rz with some updates and a smidge more power).

https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...gh-torque-35lb-flywheel-2tr-fe-review.641773/

I bought the heavy flywheel 7 years ago and the LC Comp Clutch. Now that it’s getting closer to the truck moving on its own power I went with an Aisin instead of the LC because it might have been more aggressive for my wife when she drives it and I am not building a hardcore off-road / rock crawler.

Yeah get a heavy flywheel and a Luk clutch and run it. Will be way better then the 22re anyday

In my opinion keep the stock weight. You have plenty of low gear with the doubler so the added mass isn’t really needed like it would be with a stock case setup.

So last week got the more stuff ordered up.

Decided on holding off on the timing chain as It is a can of worms with pulling the head off. I feelin like if I'm going that deep I might aswell go through the rest of the motor. So for now just going to get it running

Saturday got some work done on pulling out the 22re... Currently motor is still in but ready to pull. Hope to get it out this week so I can get the engine bay clean up and ready for the install
