That is correct. if he wants to stay 4cyl I don't know what his transmissions options would be.
I have the SOHC and M5R01 swapped in currently, I was under the impression that running a TH400 will rob more power then a C4?
 
My extended cab Ranger has a 4l80e in an unmodified trans tunnel, but it's super tight!! (had to beat down the body pinch seam in a couple spots.)

I thought the 4l80e was same size really, except longer.

But your 4l80 isn't mounted behind a v6 in the factory location, so results may vary. I've done a TH400 swap on a SOHC 6.0L and nothing besides the exhaust (needs tubular headers) needs to be modified.

True... I figured there would be more room to mate to the V6? But now you got me thinking maybe not, because the SOHC could be sitting up higher...

So yea, someone try it and let us know. hahah.

@marcytech was talking about this swap. Maybe he has some info.
 
Juan says a 4l80 wont fit in the factory trans tunnel on a ranger/explorer. Hell the TH400 is tight, so he might be right. I've never personally tried.
It's basically the same trans (same outside dimensions "roughly")....just a little bit longer.

Edit. Put a c4 in your truck. All this talk about c4s not being reliable is flim flam my c4 has been in my truck for 7 years now without a single issue and I’m a dick head to that thing.
A th400 will rob so much more power than a c4 it’ll render this entire motor swap completely pointless.

C4's are junk just like you Marcel.

No they are just getting really hard to find parts for. TH400 was in everything. TH400 can be almost completely stock and hold up to racing applications with a V6. But it's your truck, do with it what you want.
 
Ok I need some help with this motor swap when I bought the motor the guy gave me everything but the body harness, I didn’t realize until later and started getting all the wiring layed out so I tried to use my old 4cyl one because the plugs were the same and the color wires on each side were the same but I got everything hooked up and tried to fire the motor all I get is a crank but no start fuel pump won’t run and no spark, so I need a obd2 ohv body harness preferably 96 or 97 that way I don’t have to worry about different wiring with a pats system so if anyone knows someone with one hit me up!
