Back on exhaust talk!

I have decided to go for a new exhaust setup but not sure which route to go? I am thinking now of just keeping the exhaust under the cab and dumping out at the upper link mounts with turndowns.

My headers have 2.5" bolt on flanges on them. My plan was to remove those flanges and install vband clamps at the header collector. Then run 2.5" down to an x pipe, and then to 2 spintech mufflers and then turn them down.

I am still unsure on muffler model. I like the sound of the 6000 series but im worried they will be too loud. Alot of videos i have seen they dont seem terribly loud. I have been considering the sportsman 3000 muffler but worried they will be too quiet lol.

Trying to find the happy medium of having a good deep choppy idle but not overly agressive and obnoxious when cruising.

It’s not a daily driver, go with the 6000. It’s not going to be overly loud unless you’re ripping rpm’s, will give you the sound you’re looking for, and with zero drone!

i think going to duals with a x pipe and 2 mufflers is going to make a huge difference in sound and i love the tone of the spintechs.

Do you guys think its worth it or needed to step up to 3" piping or should i just keep it 2.5" as it already is? space is tight under there so i was planning on keeping it 2.5"

Currently i have dual 2.5" going to a 3" Y which im sure going to duals is going to help flow massively. My dyno guy said that i am losing power by pushing both sides into a single 3". I cant confirm this but i have seen reports of guys gaining 15-40hp going from what i have currently to duals.

For reference i figure my motor makes around 500-550hp. It put down 321 at the tires through the small exhaust, th400, big rear end etc.

The best thing you can do for drone is get the exhaust to not dump under the cab. The sound waves bounce up and down between the cab and the ground which causes that deafening drone sound. I would do some side exits or out the top or back of the truck somehow if you can. Also, ironically enough I’ve noticed trucks with dumps towards the ground kick up and blow a lot more dust around than top or side exits, especially at speed.
I think you would be fine with either size of tubing, the 3” will help the engine breath a bit more however and will be a deeper/louder than 2.5”.

Thanks Kevin! All makes perfect sense!

I decided on the 2.5" setup- Bit of an oversight on my end but I added some additional tubing to the engine cage last year for frame tie ins to the engine cage/shock mounts and now i cant get my headers out. In the future i will probably just cut these tubes and put connectors on them.

I decided to keep the 3 bolt flanges at the headers, its already welded/setup so minimizes my changes. I hardly ever take them off so its not really a service issue. I am going to run the 2.5" x pipe and 2 mufflers under the truck. Im going to start with putting some 45 degree turn downs on the mufflers they will dump out right at the back of the cab.

From there i can get some ideas on how to route the exhaust up or out the sides. Packaging in this thing is super tight, i have super minimal space to run the exhaust with the fuel cell, links and drive shaft in the way but once i have the main exhaust structure in place i can figure out how to make it work.

I really wanted to do this to get rid of the restrictive y pipe, and get rid of the horrendous clap sound. Its not even drone its just a terrible exhaust note that sounds like one of those squat trucks.

Parts should be here by the end of the week so i can get it knocked out
