I got this big dick Full floater for my Tacoma. Definitely overkill haha It has a Strange case and full spool.

Wondering what Gear Oil everyone is running? Race-Dezert had some old threads on the topic but I think I can relate more with the trucks here. I’ve heard the 250w 300w is too thick and robs HP

I run Lucas 85-140 in both my trucks and have never had problems doing so.
Have recommended the same in other vehicles I have built and worked on and had the same results.
All were 9 inch with either detroit lockers or spool.
Just recently I put the 85-140 in my daily Ranger (8.8 with limited slip) since that's what we had in the shop and its doing well too.

Nice rear end!

250 wont rob any noticeable amount of hp but ive had better luck running redline heavy weight shock proof gear oil. Maxima used to make a straight 140wt I’ve used as well, not sure if they still do.

I like Swepco products. In my 10" set up I run 250wt
The industry has been moving away from swepco. Supposedly a couple years ago they reformulated the moly XP oils and it’s having bad foaming issues.
Who knows if it’s a real issue but more than 1 reputable person in the gear industry told me this. I ran swepco 140wt for a few years in my truck, heard this and decided to investigate. Ran my truck on jack stands for only a minute and took the fill cap off after, it was in fact all foam. Switched to the redline I mentioned above, very little visible foaming

Just a little fyi for anyone who cares 🤷‍♂️😂

AJ at EWR said 250wt maxima for mine, but specially said NOT the progear. Might depend on if your locked or spooled

Yeah I sent him the Amazon link above and he said yes thats the stuff he uses. He also said dont run a pro ring and pinion they're soft and dont last for street driving

Thanks all for the feedback. I used the Maxima 250wt ester oil that was linked in a comment. It’s been working out for me

Someone on IG posted the Pink Maxima 250wt mineral oil. I ChatGPT it and I guess the Blue bottle is a little better than the pink mineral oil but I figure I just post pics in here for reference.

I’ve used the full synthetic in race trucks, used the red bottle in prerunners, great success with both.

Still running heavy weight shock proof in my own though.

I've always heard with 250w in the rear diff that you should warm the gears up like all the ballers at a race with the truck on jack stands idling. Would having 250w in a "prerunner" where you say pull it out of the garage and drive it around town occasionally be an issue if its not warmed before driving?

I'm running Curries 85-140 in my kids Camburg read end. Usually when in the desert. He will putt the truck around slowly for a minute or so to get the transmission and the rear end warmed up before he beats on it. Mainly because we all know how good Ranger transmissions are.
