2022 Barstow Desert Clean-Up Pre Run

We hopped over the highway on outlet center dr and scouted some more trash.... as the rain started to fall....
Traction was unreal, no dust, other than my no wiper situation... things couldn't have been better.

Or so I thought... We are blasting through this uncharted desert @sdecurti is leading I'm maybe 10 car lengths back. not super close but closer than normal due to the no dust. All of a sudden outta nowhere he slams on the brakes! and yells STOPPPPPPPP! for the send time today I dump the brakes and pitch the truck sideways and swerve off the trail so I don't plow into the back of him!

I'm like dude! wtf ! what ?
He's like dude get and out and come look!

Three! Desert Tortoises!!!!!!

Seriously so damn cool! I've always wanted to see one and in the short time I've been in to this whole desert game since 2006 never seen one.
Seen plenty of tarantulas, scorpions, Fox, Coyotes, Burros, Deer, Big horn Sheep, Rabbits, lizards, snakes, but nooo tortoises!

Needless to say, @sdecurti and I were stoked!

SO RAD! Still stoked about that....

We said our farewell to our hard-shelled friends and pressed on.

Good times! The great trash pile that kept on giving and the absolutely perfect weather and driving conditions made this an awesome day trip. Plenty of trash out there.

We spotted this contraption of a tow setup on our way to Barstow.

pretty gnarly to see 3 tortuous all at once. about 8 years ago we were in the same situation in the wash to slash x. Came around a corner and almost took out my friends truck as he was stopped in the middle of the wash. His tire marks were so close to the turtle as he swerved it actually lifted up the dirt under the turtle so the turtle was sitting on a berm. I missed my friends truck by a cunt hair. So rad to see them out there though.

After the reptile show we proceeded on to our next stop...

Little airplane graveyard ... Shoulda stopped and taken a few photos... so crazy how huge planes are up close and personal.

The next stop a lovely end of the world-looking town.

We took dirt from Adelanto back to Palmdale... marking trash along the way... honestly, as you get into Palmdale it just gets worse and worse. Cars, trash, Furniture, Abandon pot farms... We could do a whole clean-up out there... seem these folks enjoy just living in the landfill... when it's right outside people's fenced properties.

All and all was awesome to get out there and use the truck and even better to be out there with a purpose. Who knew scouting the trash could be so much fun? Looking forward to the cleanup in a few weeks... We'll be able to look back at the Son of Smokey app and see all those trash cans on there be cleaned up!

not gunna lie, not a big fan of barstow. But i also had 35 psi in those tires, it would of been softer to fill them with concrete. lol

dude @85Yota and I were getting tossed all over the place out there... I've cant recall a time when my truck wasn't wide enough to drive in a sand wash 2 track... #smalltiressmallshocksworkingdoors.

Then going down main lol 33's and 13 inchs of travel. basically trying not to jump every hole and slam into the next whoop

Also second the Gnarstow comment, was rough out there in the SxS chop and rain ruts.

Aside from E sliding into the ditch, did you notice any more rain wash outs? It doesn't look like there was a ton of rain, but going to the desert after a storm always scares me a little from the wash outs

Only a few wash outs but they were along the edge of a wash anyways so it was expected.

i saw some major flooding yesterday up by sawtooth campground just past slash x wonder if that made its way into barstow at all?
