What a fun time. Ranger made it there and back under its own power. Didn’t really go fast in the ranger as I just wanted to get a feel for it and see what needs to be replaced as it was stored in a garage for the last 15 years. Got to hang out with good friends like the old days and just relax for once. Can’t wait for the cleanup. And hopefully more trips like this. E and Scotty thanks for putting this one.

Friday late afternoon Connor and I set out about 4ish. Plan was to meet @sdecurti and his son in the Palmdale/Lancaster area. Hop in the dirt off Ave T and take our usual route to Barstow. Grab dinner at Barstow del and then hit camp somewhere on Barstow main for the night.

Traffic looked shitacular as usual

but we'd make the best of it.

met up with Scott at the pilot gas station...nice parking job, bud.

finally hit dirt just about dark

Aired down and hit it.


We made it probably halfway to Barstow. with a few stops and made the executive decision to pull off the trail back on to the road and take hwy the rest of the way. Ryder was KO'd flopping around in the back of the 4runner like a salmon and Connor was tired/hungry and ready to be at camp..are we there yet? are we there yet? Are we there yet? Finally, we made it to Barstow Del got the nourishment we need and hit camp.
started a fire and popped open the RTT.

Kids hit the rack and @sdecurti and I discussed world issues over a few sport sodas....

Woke up to a perfect desert sunrise.

Kids slithered out of bed and wanted to make a fire

Went out to collect some rocks for the fire ring.

Walking back to camp we hear the roar of a big horsepower motor. Connor asked "Dad, What's that?" I look across the desert and see a TT with no body on it coming across the desert going mach Jesus. "It's a race truck" I tell him. It was paralleling the hwy and then started to cut back up towards where we were standing. Right as it went by us (we were probably 200 yards from the course) one of the spare tires left the chat... Giant 40 inch BFG. Catapulted off the back went probably 10 ft in the air then hit the ground and started rolling, it rolled right along the course for maybe 100 ft or so before finally tipping over in the middle of the 2 track. We attempted to flag the driver he had no clue it was gone.

We pulled it off the course and started to roll it back to camp.. I quickly said eff that I'm going to pack up camp and drive the truck over.. and load this thing up. haha

So after we loaded that monster up we drove it back down to main. I stopped by a camp with a few race cars to check and see if it was theirs they pointed me down to the Team DFR camp . The dudes were stoked we found it and brought it back. They even offered to let me hop in the TT and go for a ride when it got back! Pretty rad. Unfortunately, we were on a bit of a time crunch to get food and fuel and get back to main by 9.

Scotty and I ended up being fashionably late rolled up about 915 met up with the group

Final Frontier dudes

We BS'd for a bit and then pulled everyone together for a little " drivers meeting", Plans we adjusted slightly with the Sons of Smokey app having issued loading. If you are logged in it works if you have logged out. the SMS code is not sending therefore you can't log inbut it's okay. Our Registered marker @JosB was still somehow logged it! the plan was to take half the group through College Hills ( the faster Trucks) and half the group heads out toward Slash X. ( Adam and the "slower trucks). snap photos of trash piles and mark them on the GPS app. I had the ONx app and it actually worked really well it's got an abandon car icon and a trash icon that you can use for waypoints. We split off and I realized it was only @sdecurti and headed to College Hills lol... I got on the radio and started chirping the guys and then next thing you know everyone minus the final frontier dudes and @626_rado that headed toward slash x haha whatever all good we blasted up the race course and started to see what we were looking for

found a sweet whoop section to pass @Cleandezert haha and give him shit about his large over-compensating 39-inch tires.

We spotted this rock structure off in the distance and decided to stop scope it out.

We pressed on through to the other side of the freeway off hodge rd exit...

Complete waste land from all the people shooting and dumping

So this is where @sdecurti and I broke off from the rest of the group and started our dirt journey home. Both were both pretty burnt at this point but still holding it together. Our plan was to head through the desert toward California City and hit the highway home in Mojave.

First stop was the Koi pond

Things were a bit mossy

We drove for a bit until @sdecurti chimed in on the radio that Ryder was Ralph wiggiuming all over in the back. poor dude.
We pull over for a costume change. I decided to give my buddies new NA beer a go.... honestly I gotta say it was pretty good.

We aired up in cal city and hit the pike home

First we had to stop at the Works Burger ( old primo burger )

C wanted a photo with his Oreo shake on the hood haha .

All and all it was a great trip. Rad meeting new peeps and hanging with old friends.
and for the little dude to still have a smile going after being in truck all day is a W.
