It has been a wild ride getting to this point. I sold my Sierra earlier this year and wanted to get into something 4WD. The Sierra was great but when I built it I think I really got ahead of myself building a lot more vehicle than I needed. I had mostly everything I wanted but still needing to do a cage, bigger motor, and a built transmission I was needing to invest another 40-50k to get what I wanted and I was not willing to do that. Luckily I was able to sell it to a guy in Michigan who loves the truck and has a lot of plans for it
Now that the sierra was gone I was on the search for something to build. My wife really loves Broncos so the hunt began. I was able to find an extremely clean 1996 XLT and started gathering parts, I bought everything Cho offered, Mike Cox spec shock package, Dirt King fabricated housing, Wilwood brakes etc. about a week before I was gonna tear into it we did a trip to the snow with the family and getting the kids in and out of a 2 door multiple times absolutely sucked. On the way home I mentioned this to my wife and she agreed and said we should build an explorer.
I was able to sell the bronco and all the parts extremely easy ans began looking for an explorer. Hunting marketplace I found one in Oakland and me and my buddy hopped on a plane and drove it home
I started collecting parts AGAIN, decided on
-King 2.5x12 coilovers with bumps up front
-Solo uniball, C+T beams (plated and trussed myself)
-Solo shock hoop kit
-Cookcraft radius arms and beam pivots
-Deaver G50
-Cookcraft shackles, shock mount kit
-King 3.0x12 3 tube
Also geared and locked it, desolate truss and a few other goodies. My goal was to replace as many parts as I could, powder coat anything that comes off and not reuse 1 piece of OEM hardware that came off. I’m only working on this thing on the weekends so progress is slow but here’s some pics to get up to date. This may not be the fastest thing that I have owned but Im gonna call it now that it will be the funnest, call me old but the appeal of going 70 through whoops has worn off for now and I want to see some shit and have fun with my wife and kids. It may not do anything amazing but it will do everything good enough! Let the fun begin!
