03' 4Runner V8 - "Pearl" The Prerunner Poser

I've killed one like that before to, 4.56s and all. Took 2 off the pinion gear and 4 off the ring gear. I suspect it was from shock loading it over time because when mine blew, it was not under load. If you got 4 years out of it, that probably a good sign you can put off a full housing for a bit but it may still be worth doing.

Starting to think about that Shockproof 250w for the rear diff once it's broken in.

Any lights on or electrical gremlins you needed to work out?
The 4x4 ecu gets unplugged (no longer needed) and you can patch the dash lights into the manual t-case wiring. So 4hi connects to the diff lock light and 4Lo connects to the 4Lo light on the dash. Gotta catch a flight this morning, but I'll try and find the wiring info later today.

As far as ABS and Trac, I've had that system turned off for years, so the lights are always on. Pretty sure disconnecting the 4x4 ecu will trigger those same lights and render your ABS inoperable, but it does not cause any drive ability issues.
All I did was wire up the solenoids in the tcase to the dash lights for "Center Diff Lock" and "4Lo".
Not sure if the wire colors are consistent across years for the 4th gens or not but on my 2003, it was the green w/ red stripe wire for the CDL light and the brown w/ white stripe for the 4LO light. These wires are unpinned from the plug going to the 4x4 ecu. So when in 4Hi, the center diff lock light is illuminated, when in 4Lo, the 4Lo light is illuminated. I grounded these circuits inside the cab under the shifter to keep that connection clean and out of the elements. The two connections exposed under the trans tunnel were put in heat shrink to protect against corrosion.

62 yrs old with bad shoulders from surfing and construction work, I opted for the old man diff tool.
ECGS was as stellar as their reputation has been for all these years. Great comms, and a quick turn around. I just now found time this evening to install the 3rd. Hoping the axles and the formidable rear disc parking brake will be done tomorrow......

Well the lack of experience rears it's ugly head. Internal baffle is loose, never knew to check for that.
Diff has to come back out SMDH...

600 miles on the diff now, 500 mi oil change was clean w a few tiny specs, so all is good there.

Been wanting to tie the Shock towers together for a while now after watching suspension video w my frame flexing several inches.
1.5" DOM.

Decided to use a removable weldable clamp on the bypass hoops.

Took me several hours of mock up and measuring lol, but I got my bends on the first try.

Also forgot to post this a few months ago. Much larger Lexus RC-F throttle body on a URD adapter plate.
Not usually meant for an 03', but w my upgraded 06' plenum, and inverting the throttle body for the harness connector to reach, its works quite well.

Nice, I am attempting to run the oe rr sport one on my 01 ecu. we will see how it goes. The sensor range was close enough to stock that it might work.

Also had the inner boot tear on the drivers DK axle around the same time as the rear blew out.20240610_121723.jpg
DK machines their inner cup to get the extra droop.

I also forgot the clearance for CV removal sucks with bump stops. So I decided that removing it was out of the question and let the pressure out.

The problem with that is getting a chuck in there to put them back up to pressure. The Locked off road bumps don't have much of the schrader valve exposed, and clearance with the gussets is tight.
So I bought some cheap amazon extensions and put some 300psi valve cores in there. Works OK, but I just hope they last for awhile.

Holy Shit what a difference in body roll. Should've done this years ago SMH. Wish I could afford a full cage....

Just flew to Ohio yesterday to work an LPGA Golf tournament, was surprised to see Dana as the title sponsor. Pretty cool.20240715_141417.jpg20240715_141558.jpg20240715_104722.jpg

Older Sister 1UZ. One of these Lexus LS400 Junk yard engines (Toyota didn't have a production V8 truck engine yet) modified by TRD, won Ivan a Baja 500 its first time out in 97'.
Picked it up cheap. Crank spins by hand and it has the thicker 1st gen early 90s rods.
Maybe a T100 project one day. Quite a few of those trucks for sale in Florida right now.
My Son wants to do a Blown 86 of course. LOTS of reading in my future. But the UZ community is pretty cool with their knowledge, which will help a lot cause I don't know shit.

I’ve thought about grabbing a ls400 to daily for a while then I have it to rob the motors from in the future hahaha

rods look nice
is there a chain that couples the cams in the head?
No, its a gear drive on one cam to drive the other cam. A timing belt drives the first cam then the gear drives the secone one. I think the exhaust cam is the one with the pulley for the belt.

Early model 1uz rods are decent, later ones are the same as the 2uz and 3uz and are really thin and prone to popping under boost.
