Rusty Red

I just sent what was left of a 3rd gen 4runner (tweaked frame, cab/body shell, and various smashed pieces) to "kars4kids". They said Ill get a tax write-off voucher but dgaf, Im just glad that hunk of shit is gone lol.
They picked it up? For free? I actually have a title, albeit a New York one.

Not trying to derail your thread, but Kars4kidzzz emailed me today saying that the shell/hull of the 4runner that they picked up was too damaged/stripped and that they wont be giving me any money for it. They also said that theyre going to have to pay for it to go to a scrapper lol.

Im now responsible for the lack of food to some starving ethiopian children lol.

Funny you mention this. In my professional life, I deal with tow companies pretty regularly. I was at the biggest company in our area on Wednesday and was talking to the owner about how to get rid of my rusty stripped Tundra when the time comes.

I mentioned cars for kids and he explained it to me. They are a middle man. They get the request from owner of the car for removal, then try and sell it to a tow company to go and pick it up. He said it’s a total scam. They do nothing but connect the tow company with the owner of the junk car and then take the majority of the money. The tow company takes all the risk. I bet they will got something for your 4Runner, just not enough to give you any.

The good news he said he will take my rusty stripped Tundra for nothing and pick it up. He gets $100 for a car/truck with no drivetrain and $400 for a compete car/truck at the scrapyard. He does enough business to run a 4 car trailer to the scrapyard almost every day.

^ You guys lucked-out!
IIRC, they shut JosB down after about 4 yrs or so. Maybe AAA is a little more lenient (although not the one in Victorville, theyve got a chick there thats a damn nazi and gets all shitty about people "scamming CA out of money so thats why they continuously have to raise the fees/costs...". Get fucked lady, this states just robbing people at this point)

There was one lady at AAA in Simi Valley that would give me trouble and not allow me to do that, so if she called my name I'd just say sorry I gotta go. Then come back in 5 min later and get back in line, since she would be busy with another customer.

I figured thats what happened. The very rough math I did had the thing fetching less than $100 total for its weight in scrap, then whatever Id eventually see of that in the form of a tax credit or whatever. Honestly, I DGAF. Someone came and picked it up for free lol. I didnt have to worry about loading it onto the trailer, strapping it down, shit flying off as I was driving down the road and hurting someone or messing up their car, burning 1+ hrs of my time and gallons of gas. Nope, just, GONE. "Adios muchacho!"

Your guys making some decent money if he can pull in $400 - $1600 a day!

I'm assuming he only picks up/scraps trucks with title's since I have quite a few in my junkyard with no paperwork so I can't take them to the scrapyard to get money for them, unless I want to tow them over 1 hr away and would probably only get $100 since no drivetrain just partial body/frame.

My guy is located in Camarillo and is doing me favor my taking my rusty shell. He runs a huge tow company so he ends up with tons of crappy broken down cars that aren’t worth anything. Picking up stuff from peoples houses isn’t his normal deal.

Taking this thing apart is less than fun. We are spoiled not having to deal with rust on the west coast. M12 batteries work great to power fuel pumps.

Also @smokeysevin hooked it up with the later model intake. He did all the hard work to adapt this to the early model engine. It’s way lighter, has variable length intake runners and better fuel injectors.

^^ There is a guy with one of these swaps done and claims he has the butterfly valve controlled electronically like the VVTi does from the factory. He uses a Nitrous trigger and sets the rpm parameters. The theory is that the vacuum keeps the butterfly in long runner mode through out the rpm band. Great for low and mid range, but not so good for top end power or gas mileage on the hwy. Mine has been working well with just the vacuum hooked up, RCF Throttle Body, 270cc inj, Thorley headers and Y pipe with no cats. But I'm also only getting 13 ish per gallon average. I also have a URD MAF calibrator that I need to experiment with some more.

Tundra part out status:

Camper shell $450
Driver seat belt $50
Front seats $200
Grill $40
Hood/marker/trim $300
Rear diff $500
Rear seat belts $40
Weatherstripping $60

Total $1640

Still have some pending parts to hopefully sell. Some of the interior bits are worth quite a bit on eBay still. People really love these trucks. I’m highly confident I am going onto break even or possibly make money on this deal and end up with motor and all the swap parts I need.

What color is the interior?
