Leadfoot Grey 95 Bronco

To answer your question…. lol
I used the solo cage as a base then added all the extras to go to the engine cage area.
The solo cage is fine, good fitment and all the notches were tight enough to tig weld with only a little bit of clean up.
They designed it to work with the factory headliner and interior, so it’s not as tight to the body as I would have liked it. Looking back I would have done the cage myself. But at the time I was just trying to get it built in a couple weekends so I could get back out there safely…

-then it snow balled, life happened blah blah blah and here we are

Axles and gearing are coming up on the list of items to install and I’m waiting on gearing that I don’t think is making it so stock gears is staying in plus might go pick up a 9” from my families property. However been very careful about what to buy next year as I promised the wife only one purchase for the bronco a year as in upgrades maintenance and repairs don’t count thinking a cage but the options are all around the same price and not sure who makes the best “kit” any recommendations? I used my in purchase for the axles so planning starts now for next year. Also still need to figure out how I’m going to mount the hood after not doing it for the past few months which lead to me running over my hood in the lawn like an idiot. Time to repair my hood with a fiberglass sooner than I thought
My plan is to run the cage from TE Designs. For the cost, it seems like a no brainer compared to the other ones in the market. However, due to the nature of their cage, the labor will be more if you're hiring a shop to install it.

But like Tree Trunk said, it depends on what your situation entails. Could be worth getting a 3/4 cage for the time being and add to it down the road.

I’ve always like the solo cage but after seeing some of the newer stuff coming out TE has been ideal with the additional tubing for rear shock mounts and engine cage tie ins, just might not use the tubes behind the seats to keep it easy getting in and out

I’ve been saving for the TE one so some time next year I’ll be getting it. I need more than a 3/4 for how I drive the truck I’ve been lucky so far so might as well just get the one that’ll protect the most plus me building my own has already been out of the picture when I sold my tube bender.

Harris Built WIY Cage kit!! Best full kit on the market. Not cheap but IMO it has the best layout where you don't have to add things. In the case of the TE cage you probably need to throw half of the tubes away it's kinda over developed.
I like how yours came out but id rather get the cheaper options and only use what I need and use the spare tubes to build other things cause I’m a cheap ass

It's been 3 years since I put the Solo cage in and there wasn't a lot of competition to it then, at least that I was aware of. There was the Desolate 3/4 cage, but they are not the same. I really wanted frame tie ins to give structure for current and future endeavors.

Looking at the TE kit for the first time, it looks like 2 cages worth of DOM compared to the Solo. For the same price I might of gone this direction and used what I needed. The Harris cage is next level. For where I'm at though, I'm glad I got the simple Solo cage in when I did. It's adequate for this 302 powered bro runner and it's fairly open inside for passengers and more camping type stuff I end up doing.

Bobby at solo offered me the cage at a discounted rate a few years ago when I had posted my bronco at KOH and I should have taken it at the time but for the price now it’s seems better to get the TE. If they still were 2500 I would get it but I just like all the extra bracing the TE has around the back shell

That would of been a deal. Looking at my Solo account it was actually Aug '21 and I paid $2950. Pretty sure I managed to get the covid bump. Don't forget your solid body mounts $450.

4k for a nice cage is worth it.

Theres something’s that can be skimped out or a dollar saved, but when it comes to a cage you should make sure to get the nicest and safest you can. Just my .02

Here’s my opinion of the cages I know of.

I don’t like the solo cage as much as others, just because A pillar you have to notch the side of the dash. Nothing structural wrong with it.

Desolate sport cage seems like a waste of money personally. Sure it protects the rear passengers, but the front of the cab is still completely open. Driver and passenger are still at risk. It’s also 2k for a weld it yourself or 3k for welded.

I’m sure Bobby will honor it if you bring your interaction from koh up, he’s a great dude. So for 2500$ you can get an entire cage that’s WIY, or 2,000 for a half cage that is still WIY.

The harris one is nice because it sets up for tying the engine cage into cab, and the fitment seems top tier. You’re pulling the dash one day if you’re tying into the engine cage anyways, might as well use a nice cage that sets you up for the future part of the build.

Photo of my old bronco just for kicks, with solo parts. I Should’ve kept it.

Very nice looking cage and tie in plates for the b pillar

I want to fine a low profile set I like my truck sitting low that’s why I went with the Q80-2 pack same performance but lower for more of a sleeper appearance when I was stock width

Yeah I get that but the TE has the extensions for engine cage as well as the rear shock hoops which I like for a future 4 link. It’s tough cause the pros on each make them all good choices except for a 3/4 cage I don’t see the need for that on anything with the intent to drive their trucks it’s seems like it has its market but not for me. And I appreciate all the feedback from you guys I am open minded my mind isn’t set so thanks a lot especially with a baby on the way I really had to rethink the build and how I want to proceed with it and be able to financially support the build

Logan Nailed it. I Wouldn't go 3/4 cage half the reason for a cage is the make the vehicle a complete chassis for rigidity.
