Hoopdee 94.0 Bronco

I remember driving home from the expo one year and seeing the same thing. Crazy cherry bronco going the other way on the freeway, hood ripped open, slammed the window and the cab and the hood broke in half and went flying. Buckled the cowl, broke the window, fucked the roof. I watched it all happen and turned around to check on him. He was not thrilled on what happened.

Those Aerocatch latches are you problem. They are garbage. I had two autofab hood pins on a single layer fiberglass hood for years, the hood fluttered so bad it would break everything, core support, the hood was spider cracked so bad but not once did the hood pins faulter.

We won’t install those Aerocatch latches at the shop for this very reason, the aluminum pins can be replaced with steel pins, but the design and quality of the latch is shit too.

Hate to see this on such a clean bronco.

Didn’t flaunt run those on the Mojave trail and we had to ratchet strap is hood down on the way out there?

Back in the 90s I had Moroso aluminum pins on my 67 camaro holding a glass cowl induction hood.

Same thig happened but at about 100mph. Hood went up, Broke the windshield, Then one hinge mount let go and it flopped to the driver side taking out the side mirror then it ripped off altogether and went about 20ft in the air. My buddy was behind me in a 69 firebird and watched the whole thing.

Sounded like the engine blew. I looked out over the dash, Revved the engine to make sure it was still there and drove home.

Hood was tight, No flopping or fluttering. No signs the pins were about to break.
Damn that's wild way worst then my situation.

You're 100% right. The body of the catch itself is plastic on top of having aluminum pins. My fault for not foreseeing that becoming an issues. Bummed I already cut the holes for those stupid things. Plan is to repair the hood and run the tried and true auto fab pins an all 4 corners like my last truck.

Its a bronco thing you wouldn't understand.

On top of breaking I have also seen them get stuck shut and drilled out to be opened which was the reason I didn’t go with them when planning on running a fiberglass hood on my 98 Taco. I bought auto fab ones just to know they will never have a problem operating as intended. A regular hood latch can be something glassed into the fiberglass of the hood and add a little more resistance to flutter.
