Health/Fitness

I went to the gym by my GFs house last week and they had peloton-style bikes there. I got my fat ass on it to try it out and I liked it. I liked having a decent sized screen all to myself and sat there watching baja 500/1000 videos on youtube with a few taps on the screen. As far as the workout itself, I just did my normal fast-paced cruising speed and every few minutes would crank up the intensity and bust my ass, then back down to cruising. Im sure I couldve gotten a better workout if I wouldve followed one of their routines but DGAF.

So in short, if I could find one for "cheap" Id get it.

I’d go for a real bike so you can be outside while training. It’ll be so much more enjoyable, especially if you engaged the kids too and setup weekly rides with them. It’s hard to be quality time with the kids combined with fitness activities.

I wish i could, but most of the time the stationary bike is used at 5am, or 9pm. during the week i have 0 free time during day light hours, and on the weekend, i am either in the garage, or spending time with the kid anyways.

Some things that worked for me were wearing a weighted vest, also, (flame suit on) during Covid I started doing CrossFit because they were the only gyms open, they can be expensive but in terms of functional fitness that translates to real life, I truly believe it’s the best gym regimen you can do. It’s fully scalable to each individual as well, you may want to give it shot. Walking on a treadmill with the incline up makes more of a difference then you think.

As far as nutrition cut out stuff with added sugar in it, and if you HAVE to have something with sugar I usually try to drink a bottle of water first and that sometimes kills the craving. Breakfast: high lean protein or skip it, personally I like plain Greek yogurt with some fresh blueberries and a little organic honey. In general Greek yogurt is a weight loss cheat code. A IG page that is good is @drjamesdinic, he has some good books too.

The biggest thing that will derail you: alcohol.
It’s more calories than you think, it screws up your sleep, and it slows your metabolism until you digest it.

Above all else: remember this is a marathon not a sprint, don’t beat yourself up if you have a bad day, there’s another one to win tomorrow. 5 years ago I got to a point where I couldn’t go up a flight of stairs without getting out of breath, now I can run a 7 minute mile at almost 37. If I can do it, anyone can.

Starting with baby steps.

Rekindling my love for cooking. Fresh meals every night, with enough left over for work lunch the next day. Im so over fast food, the cost and the affects on my body.

Small steps in being more active, walking more, using the stairs, etc.

Fast food isn’t even really a cheap option anymore

I eat a lot Salad N Go, great deal for what you get

YOU ARE CORRECT AND I AM WRONG.

I FUCKING LOVE SALAD N GO.
Bfast burrito, coffee, and salad or something like that.......... for like 11 bucks. (In Arizona though, prolly a deal but its for like $69 in CommieFornia)

I need to get back in swing of things. I have fallen off a bit. So this morning 5am bike ride and a walk tonight. Plan is to do same routine entire week. Oh and salad for lunch and dinner.

And god damn fast food is a rip off these days.

Be careful with protein powders. Consumer Report found that some protein powders contain lead.

Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein has been tested and found to have lead levels below detection limits, confirming it is safe for consumption according to Consumer Reports' October 2025 testing. Despite some sources indicating trace amounts of lead below 1.0 PPM, the most recent and comprehensive testing shows no detectable lead, placing it among the top 25% safest protein powders tested.

  • Consumer Reports tested 23 protein powders in October 2025 and ranked Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey #5, with lead levels below detection limits, meaning the amount is either absent or too low to measure.
  • The product is verified as safe for unlimited daily consumption, with no serving restrictions, and is considered one of the best value options at $0.75 per serving.
  • While some older or less comprehensive sources mention trace levels of lead below 1.0 PPM, these findings are superseded by the more recent, independent testing by Consumer Reports, which confirms the product is safe.
  • Only the Double Rich Chocolate flavor was tested in the Consumer Reports study, but the safety status is considered likely applicable to other flavors.

I saw your last post on this thread and didnt see this one on the list but it's probably still going to kill me haha 😩

It looks like you are good with that brand.

I used to make a bunch of smoothies several times a week. Mixed in a couple of scoops of protein powder and some fruit, yogurt, nutz, banana. Definitely seemed to help when I was working out and running. But once I stopped exercising regularly, that combo made me feel like shit. Then I stopped making smoothies all together and stopped using protein powder. Once I saw that report from Consumer Report, it made me rethink using protein powder completely. CR says some of the better brands still have "acceptable levels" of lead in them. Huh? I thought any lead is bad. Who determines what an acceptable level is? I think it's their way of warning us without completely destroying the protein powder industry.

Now I just eat eggs. Try my best to eat 2-3 eggs every morning. IMO, easiest way to get protein into my system. Scramble eggs or cook up a batch of hard boiled eggs. Eat a couple of those with some salt and it holds me over and is easy.
