Transplant thread from DR

After lurking on this site for the past 14 years I'm stoked on finally starting my first build thread. I've owned and collected parts for a hand full of different trucks over the years but always ended up selling. Picked this explorer up back in July and finally committed to building something. Really lucked out finding this gem: 1993 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0 4x4. 67,000 original miles owned by an older lady since new. Interior is in near perfect condition, everything works, and it runs great. Really the only thing I had to was fix a coolant sensor and a couple of window regulators. I almost feel bad cutting this thing up.

The goal for this thing right now is to just have a fun reliable cruiser for the desert that is also capable of a little four-wheelin, all while maintaining room for 4-5 people and a cooler full of beer.

No wonder the window didn't work

Firsts things first was some warn manual hubs.

And of course had to do some stock mobbing. This thing blew me away with some of the hills I was able to make it up bone stock.

Now onto the suspension: I took the truck to Tanner at Sacc Fabrication and he absolutely crushed it on everything.
Front end is stock width C/T with overlay plates from Threat motorsports, as well as Threats radius arms.
Running king 2.5x12 coilovers and locked offroad 2.0x2" bumps with a custom engine cage built by Tanner.

For the rear suspension I went with a Deaver G50E pack, king 2.5x14 bypass shocks, and Solo Motorsports extended shackles. Sacc Fabrication also did a low profile bed cage and made some super rad color matched, marine grade leather shock boots to seal the back of the cab.

Also had him build a bumper mount for 3 hella rallye lights.

Went with 33/10.5/15 BFG's on American racing outlaw II wheels. Doing my best to keep this thing sleeper--ish and some what era correct.

Here is how it sits now. I need to go up on the spring rate upfront to get a little more ride height. The rear should drop slightly once the leafs get broken in, but for now it has a bit of the stink bug stance.

So far I'm super happy with how everything has turned out. It drives pretty well on the road, and planning on taking it out for the first time on Halloween weekend at Ocotillo Wells.
quick recap from the first trip out. 307 miles door step to doorstep. Loaded it up with everything I normally put in my truck for a full weekend and headed out. Was pretty sluggish up all the steep hills and I was definitely nervous about driving it to and from, but made it there and back with no problems. Roughly 100-115 dirt miles.

Really happy with how this thing turned out. I had a blast driving it around all weekend and pretty impressed with what it can handle so far.

Couple small updates.

Got it re-geared to 4.56 which has made a worlds of difference

Made a simple mount for the BD s2 amber light and got it wired up. Works great, super bright and no issues so far.

also attempted to make a panel to mount my switch panel to and added some 12v outlets. Clearly misjudged the mounting holes. works good though, version 2.0 will be cleaner haha. Mounts right up to where the factory ashtray/cigarette lighter goes.

Got new springs rates for the front end as well, just haven't found the time to get those put on yet.

Other than that I've been really enjoying this thing. been taking it out pretty frequently, just always end up spending more time driving and less time taking pictures of it haha.

Not much has happened since the last update. In the beginning of 22' I was able to go from working on the explorer in this:

To this:

Being able to actually work on this thing in a garage has been huge and I'm stoked to start doing more things myself.

Couples pictures from the last year or so:

Just finished prepping the front end for this season, and finally put the new springs on upfront that have been sitting in my garage for the past 2 years.

Other than that just been slowly stacking parts. I have a set of D44 beams sitting in the garage that will be going on next summer along with a full size 8.8.

I love clean setups like this! looks great. Do you have any pictures of the clearance between inner rear tires and bypass?
