06 Ranger 4x4 Clown Truck

Still figuring out this site versus DR...sorry.

In a perfect world I would put link killers on it, but I told myself I wasn't gunna mess with it and actually enjoy driving instead of not driving....the smart thing to do is get the same new leaf pack or have these serviced...my first real trip with it is this weekend, we'll see. I loved the link killers on blue Bahama but I would hate to start cutting on this truck.

The generals suck balls. They are healthy and safe though so i'm gunna leave them until I can either source the same old KMC's or do some OG Walkers or Gordon's and figure out what tire I like, the KM3's seem to be calling my name.

As for the red. No. You are communist. Go back to Russia, Putin misses you, he needs friends. The blue is wearing on me too, i'm gunna pull it after the trip, I figure its atleast paint protection on northern NV trails and gravel roads.

I repaired some easy wiring things tonight from general wear and tear, got the race radio and lights working correctly, took it for a hotlap around my area and parked it.

So...I have a 4wd 7.3 dually, nope that would make sense. Use the superlight ranger to move the utility trailer, it's raining here, downhill and slick, I was going .010 mph sliding...soooo, this didn't work. I'm hella smart.
looks like a party.. haha did you end up hitting that tree? I feel like any time see those generals in the mud they just instantly pack up and are slicks?

I don't like the grabbers, they suck, they pack up, but I will say we hit alot of Rocky trails and at about 40-60 with 20 psi they never got a flat, I would like to get rid of them, but I got other things to spend money on, like a tranny. I think this truck has more to offer but I am resisting the urge to put it on jackstands.

Boys...no turbo, probably M90 blower then like 5 crate engines till I figure out tuning and keeping the intake charge cool. I never hit the tree, stopped, left it parked, then had my buddy pull back on the trailer while still connected with his stupid truck, we worked together and walked it to safety.

So, we did our trip to black rock with the church, all in all it went famously. 5 hours to camp from my house with my my buddy, did about 200+ dirt miles with the boys when it was all said and done, got back Saturday afternoon and the trans was clunking and felt hurt but still doing its job. Truck ran awesome until Sunday morning, left camp on an uphill got a little aggressive, and she left the chat, lost 3rd, doesn't like 4th, and reverse went on vacation, classic 5r55e. Drove home shifting it from 2 at about 80 to overdrive which was fun going over donner summit. Still very happy, I will either go buy the stuff to rebuild this trans or just buy a built one, trying to figure out the best option. Talking myself out of ruining it with a C6 that I have the means to make work with 4wd. Trying to keep her stocking and strong.

In the grand scheme of things it got me door to door, and the repair was expected. The 5r55e is made of glass, once I dial that in as well as the steering rack I think she's good.

Go C6 (or M5ODR1)
I blew up many 5r55e's and imagine you may have a similar fate.

Keeping them cool only does so much. They are car transmissions after all.

Looks like a cool trip! What are the things in the middle of the hitch rack?

Those were just concrete blocks that were in a friend's truck, I was using them in my tent cause it was super windy, he left early so I am the new owner, I couldnt just leave them out there.

Trying to figure out what I did and what parts to get here, the fluid isn't burnt and doesn't appear to have any metal in it (yet)...i havnt dropped the pan yet.

What I do know is it lost mainly 3rd and Reverse....it will downshift to 4th from 5th and hold the gear so long as the load isn't too bad.

C6 seems like it may be gigantic. I have a Winters shift gate for one though if you be needin one.

One or a few of these has failed:

I blew up my 5r55e a few different ways.

Thanks man, good info...I am reading that alot of people have the valve body gasket seperate and the reverse valve servo loses an o-ring and a sleeve. I think i had this same issue about 10 years ago on the same trans/different truck. Gunna drop the pan and valve body... oddly enough I have my ATRA cert, forgot all about it, I have rebuilt probably 4-5 auto trannys personally at my house with success, which means I am due to screw one up.

Has anybody tried upgrading these things? I can go to transtar locally and get a rebuild kit but I would like to beef everything up and add a cooler, not sure who makes the best stuff for this application.

Edit/update: Called around then ended up talking to Culhane for a bit and asked if there is anyway to put a 400 or C4/C6 in this thing, if I want to keep 4wd the 5r55e will just not cut it for off road no matter how much money is thrown at it. Best option at this point is to do a manual conversion or rebuild the 5r55e and literally never drive it hard.

There is definitely a way to swap in a 4wd C6 behind a 4.0sohc. Rare, but doable.
