What to pack? Tips-tricks

I run regular strap with both soft and hard shackles. Kenetic rope shines if it is a big truck in deep sand or mud where you need to give it a good hit. But that doesn't mean the flat strap wont work in those situations.
I think the kinetic ropes also have an advantage with a smaller vehicle getting a larger vehicle un-stuck. Watch a couple Matt's offroad recovery videos and he'll get full size trucks out with his XJ. He also uses soft shackles for everything, so I would think they're safe.

Pretty decent impromptu hammer as well
Yep! Exactly, that too!

And, as a note on their usefulness as fire tongs, because of the leverage the pliers have and the adjustable jaws you can really clamp down on the end of a log and move it around easily. Add a pair of stick welding gloves and you’re in business

It’s all about the multi-use tools. For me to pack it, a tool either needs to have a super-specialized use that I can’t substitute, or at least two, preferably three different uses… helps be cut down on the excessive “just in case” tools

An oil filter wrench does great double purpose for moving hot tin cans around when in-can cooking. Could also be used to grab logs and hammer stuff I suppose. Yes, I know cooking in a can is probably not the healthiest... But it is the easiest for cleanup.
