Local Legend Vital Designs Regular Cab Ranger

I took the motor apart a year ago and did new timing chain, gaskets and all that. Night before I was planning to start it last week, the timing cover gasket started to leak at the driver side water pump coolant passage when I was putting fluids in. Just got it back together and it’s leaking again in the same spot lol. Back apart it goes! Be a lot cooler if this thing had two more cylinders 😎
Sounds like now is the time to weld two more cylinders on

Alright real shit, I attempt a first start tomorrow 😂😂 it’s ready to go, just waiting for Christian to have some time so he can see it/hear it/aim the fire extinguisher if need be 💀

Tried turning the key today without the starter connected and everything checked out, starter relay clicked, so that’s good. Also started messing with my switch pros, got the fans wired up. Thing is going to sound like a god damn Cessna with the dual spals.

Coors lattes in the fridge and fingers crossed 🤞🏼🏁 hopefully next post is a video with the new exhaust making sweet noises

Well... where's the damn video lol

I AM REPORTING BACK WITH GREAT SUCCESS!! Everything went as planned wiring wise first try.

After priming the fuel pump it had a leak at the post filter, tightened it up. Couple more primes and a bump start or two. Turned the key and it fired up right away!!

Had a pretty gnarly lifter tick, but it did sit for almost two years. After 3/4 starts and I’d say about 15 minutes of run time/letting it get up to temp, I watched and heard it just go away. Motor ran great, fans are louder than the motor. Sounds like a dang Cessna taxing down the run way 😂😂 radiator works bitchin too, kept it right at 180ish 👌🏽

Exhaust sounds damn good, really happy with how it sounds! I’ll figure out how to post a video.

Think the alternator might be shot, I’ll have to figure out a charging issue. But for rewiring almost the whole truck myself I’m pretty damn happy.

Live stream?

I shoulda went live on insta 😂😂 I did record the first start. I’ll get that posted

Hell yeah! Nice this build has been sick, glad you are on the driving/dial in stage now!

if you didnt use factory cluster... I think i remember there is some trick to get it to charge. like a resistor or light needed?

Yep I figured that out last night. The one green and red wire off the alternator plug is the “on-off” switch for the alternator. I do not have it hooked up to anything because stock it just went to the cluster and was for the charging light. Didn’t realize it went to the ignition switch too. Ideally I want a light so I can realize it’s not charging but am having trouble figuring out how to get it to light up when it’s NOT getting power from the green wire haha.

Otherwise if I skip the light I was just going to hook it up to a source that only gets power when in run

Maybe I hook the lights ground wire to the green wire off the alternator and then the power wire off the light to the ignition switch, then when it isn’t charging, the green wire would essentially ground the light off the alternator mount making the light turn on… just speaking out loud here lol

Anyone got a trick to seperate a 3rd member from a housing? Can’t even get a razor blade between the case and the housing. I’ve beat the shit out of it with a dead blow, hit it with map gas, used a jack to push the diff and nothing has made it budge. Hammering a screw driver between it doesn’t work. The Allen bolt that is used to seperate it will not go in anymore. Been at a stand still for like 4 days

Use a good, sharp woodworking chisel. It'll get into the crack better than a screwdriver, and the good ones are metal throughout the handle, so when you hit it with a hammer there is better energy transfer. Just be careful not to scratch the mating surfaces

Maybe some heat around the seal
