Made the stupid decision to tear my perfectly good working truck apart because I wanted to take it to “take it to the next step” it’s been on jackstands for a year now and I’ve slowly been chillin away at it when I can. I’ll definitely add more to this as I go as I have been working on it a ton lately won’t let me post all the pics I’ll try again later just tried like 4 times I’m over it hahaha

This is the second time I’ve built this truck, basically stripped it of everything I previously did, sold 90% of the parts on it and started with a cab, frame rails and some cash from selling almost everything. Got some WIY ruff stuff 48” links, welded those up and got them on the truck before frame kicking the back half. Thought it’d be easier that way but don’t think it made a difference lol got some @saccfab (on Instagram) upper/lower links pivots as well. They are suuuper sick in my opinion and recommend them to anyone everyone that doesn’t want to build their own.

Started working on the cage after the 4 link, this was the first roll cage I’ve built and learned a ton from it, would change a few things if I where to do it again.

While the cage was dropped I added a few gussets in areas I saw someone else put a few and figured why not lol was a bitch to weld that top one wasn’t able to drop the cage super far because the bends started hitting the cab. Got some beam pivots/beam ends and just had to acquire some WIY beams

Started working on my backhalf/fuel cell cradle. Got the structure for the cradle built on the truck and pulled it off to add the diagonals and weld it out, got that attached to the truck again and started tying everything together. Also eventually acquired a WIY beam kit from a buddy and got those put together.

Acquired a 5.3 from my pops with some parts, still haven’t really gotten around to that but I needed to mock it up so it’s just a bare engine still (these pics where in September/Octoberish) also started mt engine cage just tied off of the dash bar as close to the a pillars as possible with multiple gussets. If I landed them on the a pillar/dash tube junction I wouldent have been able to weld the outside of the engine cage tube due to the cab being all up in its business so that’s what I did lol

Engine mocked up, got a ruff stuff trust for my 9” (nothing done to the 9” yet) along with some TT Motorsports upper link tabs, Tommy’s upper link tabs made mounting them on the center of axle STUPID easy. Probably because he is the shit and knows what he’s doing! Haha I boxed in the upper link tabs as good as possible I’m going to add some “dress up” plate work to make it look more appealing to my eye lol also build a harness bar since I realized I have plate work tying the cage to the cab so I wouldent be able to run my harnesses around that unless I just ran tabs or something. I like the harness bar look anyways haha added some more tube work to the engine cage as well

And these are my most recent pictures. Started to get my rear shock mounts all figured out. Got the axle level, used a piece of angle and flat bar taced to the cage to hold the shocks at the same spread up top as down on the link, and just started playin with cardboard and transferring it to metal. I honestly was going to run a MUCH simpler shock mount but a fancy shock mount has always caught my eye and figured I’d try to build one. Also got my fuel cell actually mounted to the cradle. Didn’t wanna get to fancy with that because you’ll never see it covered by spares…. Maybe idk how I’m doing the spares yet hahaha

I'm a sucker for a kicked frame, and would have gone that route were my frame not rusted to hell. Killer work so far.

Threw some tubes at the truck as well as welded out my second beam, also tied the pontoon to the frame at the A/B pillars finally. Little by little

I have a lot, but am also needing a lot still to unfortunately haha had a whole plan when I started rebuilding and that kinda went to shit fast

Started sealing up the cab yesterday, have never done any sort of sheet metal stuff so it’s definitely been a learning curve already haha

I'm definitely in the "cut a giant-ass hole and patch it later" camp now after doing the opposite on my truck. Welding through tiny-ass access holes and slipping tubes through exact-sized hole saw holes? Nah, gape it and patch it shut later. WAY less hassle.

Totes agree... Give yourself plenty of room to work.
