Yo so idk if this is a good Idea but I need some inspiration lol, I want to see people bed setups for trips, how stuff is secured where you put it and any specific gear recommendation would be rad. Also any lessons people have learned over the years and things not to do. Specifically for me I plan on doing multi day rock crawling trips but I’m open to seeing anything. Thanks :)

First Gen Tacomas beds bolt in from the bottom using weld nuts in the bed crossmembers unlike most newer trucks that bolt in from the top of the bed. I wanted to have my cage removable so I made some spacers and drilled out the weld nuts for 1/2” bolts that go down through the top and there are bolt head holders inside of the stand off tubes so I don’t have to hold the bolts when tightening it down from the bottom.

I like the idea of being able to do a bunch of stuff with my truck including truck stuff so it’s collapsible and removable - the long fore and aft 1.75” tubes slide into 1.5” stubs on the two most fore and aft horizontal tubes and the other horizontal tubes are tube clamped so they can move up and down depending on where I want them.

Tires are going to be clamped down with a 5/8 grade 8 stick of all thread that bolts to a welded nut in the middle of the triangles - I wanted to be able to slide a wheel out without having to pick it up and over a traditional mount I see most trucks running.

The main four corners are flanged so I can add another level for a tent or other stuff someday.

I like @the bodj ‘s slider tent shelf so maybe someday that’ll make an appearance on mine.

Heck ya dude! Looks killer I like the idea of having that sort of modular skeleton above the bed. And I think it’s cool u used the bed mounts instead of tying it into a cage or something, have u ever had to outfit it with camping gear or does she just ride on the trailer?

I would say my setup is pretty extensive. Everything has a place and a purpose. I do more “prelanding” than anything now days but it all started with the bed rack and slowly just added after. Action Packer with tools, spare tire, jack, first aid kit, fluids, cooler, powertank, propane, fire pit, ammo can storage, fresh water tank, VP gas can, and now with the added bed rack with RTT I’m pretty self contained. I really couldn’t lay it out any better. It’s all kind of a bitch to get out but it’s all accessible.

I built a simple bed rack out of some 1.5" hrew tube. The supports are outboard of the center of the bed so I can still slide sheets of plywood under it. The ammo cans are the 40mm variants. I keep tools, recovery gear, and fluids in them. The Jack mount/skid is from TT Motorsport and is very well made.

I have since replaced the unistrut with airline L track.
