First Gen Tacomas beds bolt in from the bottom using weld nuts in the bed crossmembers unlike most newer trucks that bolt in from the top of the bed. I wanted to have my cage removable so I made some spacers and drilled out the weld nuts for 1/2” bolts that go down through the top and there are bolt head holders inside of the stand off tubes so I don’t have to hold the bolts when tightening it down from the bottom.
I like the idea of being able to do a bunch of stuff with my truck including truck stuff so it’s collapsible and removable - the long fore and aft 1.75” tubes slide into 1.5” stubs on the two most fore and aft horizontal tubes and the other horizontal tubes are tube clamped so they can move up and down depending on where I want them.
Tires are going to be clamped down with a 5/8 grade 8 stick of all thread that bolts to a welded nut in the middle of the triangles - I wanted to be able to slide a wheel out without having to pick it up and over a traditional mount I see most trucks running.
The main four corners are flanged so I can add another level for a tent or other stuff someday.
I like
@the bodj ‘s slider tent shelf so maybe someday that’ll make an appearance on mine.
