Being able to sleep comfortably in the back of the 4Skinner is peak prelanding awesomeness.


I had been riding with @84Prerunner, but after night 1, FatJeff wanted me to drive the 4Skinner. I hit a short whoop section coming out of camp as we headed into Lone Pine for fuel and beer.
Me: “Jeff what’s that fucking noise?”
Jeff: “I dunno”
Me without lifting even the slightest bit: “when did that fucking knocking noise start? I can hear it over the fucking exhaust for christsake”
Jeff: “Randsburg~ish”
Me: “jesus fuck”

Jeff found camp while the rest of us took a super sweet mountain trail up to 9000ft, then dropped into Death Valley. We tried to find a welder to pay or borrow in Lone Pine to no avail. Turns out, you can still have a fucking awesome time camping and swimming and talking shit even with a brokedick shock mount.

Camp rock to Newberry springs via dirt to
Mojave rd with some detours and side quests, and ended the dirt festivities in Telephone Cove on lake Mohave.

PlannedSon and I slept in the back of the 4Skinner 3 nights.

Quarts of ATF added to the PS reservoir: 3
Tire pressure: 16front and rear
Avg mpg: 14.5
Comfortable speed thru the whoop section: 36mph
Top speed on lakebed North of ludlow: 84mph

Water added to radiator: 1.25 gallons
Times I had to use 4x4: 3; 2 dune sections and the fucked-out hill climb near the rock house in the New York mountains
