Rode from my house to Antonovich Trail in San Dimas. That entire trail is a flow killer, with deep and rocky water crossings about every quarter mile. If you enjoy climbing, this is the trail for you, as the entire first half is downhill. I was planning on taking my new hard tail to Bonelli Park, but since Bonelli is closed due to some power transformer that can only be found in a Bazaar in the Ottoman Empire....I just went for it. Maybe I'll try Marshall Canyon tomorrow AM.

Did Marshall Canyon in La Verne yesterday. There were wildlife in the area signs all throughout the neighborhood and one of my friends said they saw a bear right past that bowl that you have to ride around or through at the entrance on Orangewood. I've hiked this a few times and figured it would be a good ride and it was. Steady but doable climb the whole way up and then downhill back.

Accepted. I like it a lot. I opted for a hard tail to maximize my cost-to-quality ratio. Way better than my Kona Honky Tonk I converted to a Gravel/Hauler from a road bike. I just have to get used to bombing down hills with my tail sliding all over.....The last time I was on a MTB was 2008 .

Did a few smaller (9ish mile laps) while up in Idyllwild. The rock spacing didn't agree with the 20mm pedal extensions I run. Kept to the "Dark Zone" up by Pine Cove this trip.

Ditch Diggler took a digger this afternoon.



Ken did the step down after the first few jumps at the top section. Rolled off pretty slowly and bounced upon landing, so when he got on the brakes he had no traction. Carried too much speed into the berm and flew over, ditching his bike and landing headfirst in dirt/bushes. Called it a day and took the easy way back home.

Did another Bonelli Park ride and found a tent at the top of a trail. It wasn't well camouflaged, but I didn't feel like possibly dealing with the occupant while half dead from the climb, so I made it to about that middle power pole, saw the tent, and turned around for some downhill action.

Thanks for helping me out of there and for talking to the wife. I am glad you were there. That night and the next morning were rough. My brain came back mid day Friday. Still have a sore neck / back and left shoulder. Not looking forward to trying to find a new helmet that fits my giant head.

Like @the bodj said and from what little I remember, I checked up a bit on this drop. The landing unsettled my bike or bounced the back end which had me correcting (trying to gather it up) as I was trying to slow for the berm at the bottom of the landing. I ended up going into the berm way to fast for the entry line and blew off the top. I think it must of high sided me as bruising and the helmet damage was on my right with a right berm.

Radius on that berm is pretty shitty too.

My buddy and I dual sport a lot and I carry strips of that bright orange construction tape in my bar bag so I can tag stuff like that and trail heads that are hard to see at 50 mph.

It is a pipe. It was there in the hillside when Ken built the trail. Berm radius is great. This is a jump line he has been building, so you know exactly where things are. It’s not like the pipe jumps out at you unless it’s your first lap.

The trail is built on old Ag land. probably cattle. There are pipes running everywhere. The old trail crosses or parallels the pipes a few times. They are the spirit of the trail. I made the conscious decision to leave as much of the pipe as I could and work around it. I cut out a few that were deemed more on the deadly side.

As for the radius, it holds at full speed when you go into it correctly. I actually pushed out the exit about 3' on the rebuild of this section shown to hold speed. This picture is after initial pack, but I don't think much changed on final shape and pack. None of this trail has been a "build it and forget it" build. It has been built / torn down / and built again multiple times until I am comfortable with each obstacle. There are a few things from the beginning of the build that will be updated next winter to improve on what was working when built, but the trail has advanced past the early stuff. This has been a 2 yr mostly solo project.
