I havent seen a thread for this, and am picking this back up this year.... Part of my 2026 goals.

While I own my fair share of stuff, I havent really shot much in the last 4-5 years.

So figured i should get back into things, I took a beginner shooting class, which was alot more beginner than i expected, but i wasnt sure where to start. After chatting with the instructor he said " just get more range time" So looking to get a membership to the local range and go 1-2 times a month.

I think my goal for 2026 is likely a ccw, not because i really feel the need to carry often, but i would like to do it legally if i need to, and also want to do something new this year.

Just picked up a new P365 and putting some rounds down range tonight.

I’d love to learn about training this year. Where to do it, what types of trainings there are and so on
primarily I really want to get better at moving quickly with a rifle. Learning room clearing and stuff like that.

that sounds like a good skill to have as well. I am starting with pistol and then would like to move onto other stuff. Through my very narrow research i have seen a bunch of tatical places that do training.. Mostly i just gotta find the time, and schedule stuff or else i find excuses not too.

You should love the 365 for an EDC. Im a large mammal and carry a 365XL with extended mag and red dot as my off duty carry. Its fantastic!
90% of ALL your training can be done without ever popping a live round. You can do it at home. Just ensure that your ammo never comes into the same room as your dry fire area.
Site acquisition. Site acquisition. Site acquisition. Being able to draw quickly and get on target, and quickly work through the common malfunctions is a HUGE part of training, and as I said, you never even have to pop a round.

That is good info... i am starting to look into holsters, and finding out how fat people carry these things without being stabbed. lol Any insight you have would be greatly appreciated.

Also did you visit oceanside a couple weeks back? I saw a linked dodge with solid front axle that i thought might of been you.

My old linked dodge now lives in oceanside:( sore subject, thanks for brining it up.

There is no comfort for us plus size models when concealed carrying when sitting down. But a good sturdy belt does wonders. Check out a company called X Belt out of arroyo grande. My duty belt and EDC belts are from him. I use a We The People holster and carry right above my hog. Get the added stand off piece that pushes the end up the gun out just a tad. Keeps it off my gut a little more.

I would like to get more proficient with a handgun,

I'd also like to start stretching out my 6.5 to 400/500/600 yards with consistent group sizes. One day id like to ring at gong at @ 1000, but I don't have the right rig for that at the moment,

This was last year down in Kentucky at a private hunting ranch I was invited to. Ringing a 4" gong at 300 yards constantly.

AR's are cool, but I'm definitely a Bolt Rifle guy.

Excited to see this thread I thought about making a general gun / shooting thread on here but never got around to it. I'm an avid pistol and rifle shooter and shoot competition twice a month (USPSA and 2-gun). I also have done my fair share of training from mild to wild stuff.

Anyone looking for great training and CCW courses look into First Defense USA Mark Ackenbach. He is one of the best in the Socal area and recently an off-road guy. His training courses are all great. Highly recommend the Fundamental rifle and Fundamental Pistol courses as a starting point for your training journeys you will see huge improvements from beginning to end in just an 8hr day.

Anyways if anyone in here has interest in shooting competition or a general range day slide into my DM's

Pics for fun.

Check out Crossbread supertuck holsters it is the absolute most comfortable holster if you are going to carry strong side 4 o'clock position. Appendix carry is sexy and fast on instagram but not very practical for comfort and being seated for long periods of time if you're a bigger guy. Iv tried many of the "most comfortable" appendix holsters on the market but always revert back to strong side carry. What I see a lot with new CCW carriers is if it's not comfortable you won't carry consistently. If you get a good holster and wear it everyday for a week or 2 eventually you feel weird without it, it becomes just part of your routine. Most people never get to this point.

So question for all as I am learning...

Shot both my .40 shield and my p365. I started out as a horrible shot, but was relaxing and got better as i put more rounds down range. I am curios about thoughts on red dots for a CCW. Bulky at all? easier and quicker target acquisition? Good brands? A buddy had one on a full size sig and that fucker was deadly with it and super tight groupings. I on the other hand started out looking like i took a shot gun to the target for my first 50+ rounds. lol

Red dots are the best for pistols. For your 365 I recommend the Holosun 507k or Trijicon RMRcc both brands are great. You won't notice any difference carrying as far as size and bulk etc.. Red dots make getting on target quicker and allow faster follow up shots if you practice and shoot consistently. The thing is when you first get one you really need to practice acquiring the dot from you holster draw and do some dry fire practice with it. If you don't there's a good chance you'll end up hating it. What I see a lot is people draw there gun and fish around for the dot for a second or 2 before getting on target the ONLY way to fix this is by reps and practice. Once you become proficient with a red dot you'll never go back.

is the $300 dollar difference between Trijicon and holosun worth it?

Gun talk! I love guns!

For those who don’t know, I am a cop and a firearms instructor. I teach basic and advanced shooting and firearms tactics.

Took the boy shooting this weekend, his first experience with rifles with scopes. He did great and handled the .308 like a pro.

@Cleandezert I have a Holosun 407k on my daily carry P365XL and a 509T on my duty P320. Both have been great. Trijicon makes nice stuff, but it is expensive.
