A buddy and I built this in my garage back in 2017, he took it with him when he moved to Idaho but I’ve been thinking about building another one. The wife wants to go easy camping and I’d like to be able to go more wilderness camping with the family.

Anyone built their own trailer?

This was a 4x4 bed basically so a little small. With an ARB tent on it and not much else.

New one won’t be on 33” Baja’s, i want more creature comforts, it won’t use a pentyl hitch and I want a bigger tent and a bigger bed so it can hold pit bikes or something easier. It also won’t be so off road oriented.

Built one out of my old rover back in 2009 before overlanding was cool.
Had a pintle style hitch so it was kinda all over the place when going down any grades coasting.

At the time it was kinda of more of a pain in the ass, but now with kids all the extra shit I always seem to bring would probably be nice to have for some trips.

check out the https://locknroll.com/ hitches.

Sounds like you want a pop up camper then. All the fun of rooftop tents, but more space, shelter from elements, a place to cook, take a dump, etc.

Bought it for $3000, and has outdoor shower, water heater, sink, cooktop, toilet, king bed, and queen bed. I freaking love this thing. Survived 40+mph winds in Barstow at the last Cleanup

Pop ups are cool too. Definitely limit where you can go a little bit more than a little trailer... Although I did drag Kayla's parents pop up all the way back in the dunes on Pismo trip back in the day haha.

i just asked Chrissy to send me some pics of his range rover that we did the exact same thing with. haha
and actually, where the "chop shop" got its name. cutting a fucking range rover in half, in my side yard/shop. haha

Oh I totally agree that they limit where you can go. I wouldn't drag it through the Rubicon, but he said he's looking for something less offroad oriented, more creature comforts, and looking to go wilderness camping. With the lift and shocks I put on mine there really isn't any fire road I'd be worried about taking it on.

Pshhh. At pismo the other week I saw a Dodge pulling a triple axle fifth wheel AND double axle utility trailer loaded with bikes and quads in the sand haha. People are wild.
