Local Legend "jolene" 1993 ford ranger

Couple small updates on the truck! I’ve always hated the 3 wheel studs I had as a spare tire mount. Made it super hard to actually take the tire out. Not that it happens often but you know… I get bored lol
Grabbed a steering shaft and coupler and made a center nut with the coupler. The shaft is welded into a socket as the “key” to take the spare out. Also made a donut for the bottom side to keep the tire still on the mount. Pretty happy with it

Next up was a headliner. I did the old trick with the memory foam and then wrapped each panel with tweed. This was so much harder than I thought it was gonna be. Basically you have to cut the foam perfectly because if it has to compress to fit in each triangle the compression with wrinkle the fabric that you’re upholstering it with. Wasted ALOT of material getting the all smooth lol.

so the foam is held in place by just being squished in there?

Nothing backing the foam?

i did the foam type also. like you, i went through a lot of materiel because of the squish wrinkles. i just bought a sheet of foam like roll bar foam. cut and fit. i then used roll cage foam over the cage. i tried to glue the roll cage foam to some of the foam inserts, then cover each section. i had to sew the vinyl to the foam along with some glue. a friend to be to use 3m neoprene high performance rubber adhesive 1300. i would really like to re-do it with all that i learned. i wanted to make sure my head had some protection and i think (or wished) it help with noise.

cant wait to check out your truck at the xpo this sunday. chat a bit with you.

Sad to say but my time with Jolene has come to an end. I enjoyed every minute spent building and driving this thing. I’ve made a ton of friends with it and even more memories. Thanks to everyone who’s followed along and helped me in the past!

The good news:
It has gone to a great home. The new owner is no stranger to driving built trucks like these has he’s got a couple. Sounds like she’ll be spending a lot of time in Mexico. He told me he doesn’t plan on changing it much. Wants to add a fridge in the back and wants to wrap it red (maybe) so be on the lookout!

Till we meet again ole girl. 🥲

Congrats on selling a truck without a v8 and a floater that everyone thinks you need nowadays.

So what kind of boat are you getting now? ;)
Haha we are super insanely happy with our boat so that won’t be getting replaced. I did purchase the trucks replacement already. Just been waiting to clean up a few things on it before I start the build 😅
