Jawbone to Monachee May1-4

Like Brandon said, fuel in trona, and it’s not that many miles from trona to camp. Like 20-30 miles.

I have a DMV appointment at 9:40 to get my eyes checked that was scheduled before the spot opened up.....Efff MEEEEE. Truck will be packed and plan is to leave immediately after I am done, approx drive time 4 hrs. without traffic and a pit stop in Trona for Fuel. Not sure what your plans are for Friday but I can try to meet you guys at camp when I arrive or wherever you are at............If this doesn't work for you, I totally understand and don't want to mess up the trip. I know you said you have starlink but I most likely won't have cell service and have radio so I can try to get in contact when close or just head to the cabin. I have been texting with @SByota and he said he plans to leave at 0500 tomorrow morning........................No offence taken if my plan doesn't jive with what you got going, my whip is not as fast as yours or @SByota so feel free to say no thanks!

Roll call

Trip is basically split into 2 groups now,
Brandon miller
TJ runner
Kevin bodj

Will be bouncing around between Cal city and speed metal

I will be at Briggs cabin tonight.
What are your plans boys?

@SByota
@Ckuebert
@Motiracer38

I'm even on the fence about the Cal City/Speed Metal run. Cold and W are a lame combo. Might be running up to the forest to ride dirtbikes. Or be lame and stay home...

I'll be at Briggs cabin tonight as well. Leaving after work so will probably be there by 8. Keeping expectations low so I won't be disappointed but want to get out wheeling.

@Motiracer38
I’ll have a radio on BFGRLY 151.715
Bringing kids?

My ETA at Briggs is 7:30/8 too so maybe I’ll see you on the road

I’ll be at Briggs on Friday around 0900ish. I’ll check in when I get fuel in Trona. Staying with the group Friday night and deciding Saturday morning what the plan will be. Kinda leaning toward Speed Metal then staying in Cal City, where you going to be @WW_RANGER_X ?

Looks like the weather further north is going to be cold windy and rainy.

Good copy on BFG Relay 151.715

We will see for saturday night. I'll be in cal city tonight through friday. Definitely hitting speed metal then back out to the desert. Depending on weather i plan to head back out to cal city to camp in the desert, or spoil us and grab a room at the Best Western so Wes could swim lol. Pretty much planning hour by hour at this point lol. I will keep the thread updated on my end just in case. My number is posted on one of my last comments if you need to call/text me. I will be on BFG relay as well, and radio stays on.

Ok my dad just got there in his raptor. (2:30pm Thursday)
Big cabin is taken, the stone cabin is ours. Sleeps 6 and room to tent camp around it.

So we are good to go.

Also if it’s raining and cold, the deck at brigs looking down the canyon with a steel roof is probably a nice place to be.

I’m here with my dad, Brian and I brought another friend in a jeep.
The cabin is cozy and doesn’t sleep very many people. Canyon is steep and rocky and we have to spread out a bit to find flat places to sleep.
Weather is good though
so rad! have fun and be safe out there dudes! keep us updated or dont!

Wes and I are glamping at Borax Bill lol. These cool little spots are first come first serve and there’s only 5 of them. We got the last one last night. Had everything loaded up this morning ready to roll out and realized this place would be a much better base camp for tonight with all the kids. RJrunner and his boys are planning to meet up with us in a few. Did a fun 10 mile loop after breakfast. RC car is already broke lol. Plan to do a little more running around today then let the kids all hang out at camp tonight. The spot next to us just opened up as I’m typing this, so if anyone else wants to join let me know and I’ll park my truck there. It’s all free.

It was good to talk to you as always, Tommy.

Fortunately and unfortunately for Wes and I, we are back home a day early. We had logged about 40 more dirt miles after my previous post, just aimlessly driving around the desert having fun, waiting for Tjrunner (Luis) and his 3 boys to show up. Wes and I loaded up on lunchables and uncrustables through out the afternoon. They ended up arriving around 4ish?, it was great. Kids are playing and eating way too many snacks (as you can see Wes with a family sized Cheez-it box in his lap). We went out and did another quick 10-15 mile run, and once back Luis cooked up a great carne asada taco dinner.

Called it an early night at like 9:30/10pm. About midnight, I’m woken by the sound of Wes unloading what seemed like a 5 gallon bucket worth of upchuck on anything and everything inside our little tent cot. Poor guy. As this is all happening I’m trying to unzip the damn tent so he can puke outside. At this point all of our gear and some clothes are done. Spent an hour cleaning up what I could and we went back in to get little to no sleep. Had to use towels as blankets. Would this be considered bad lines good times? lol.

The morning comes and the whole group got out of the tents as the sun was coming up. Luis and i got into dad mode and just started cleaning and packing everything up retry quick. Wes was fine. Just too much junk food that he’s not used too I guess. So at this point we are all out of sleeping gear because it’s all covered in throw up so we decided to just hit speedmetal then make our way home after.

Blessing in disguise because we drove through where I wanted to camp tonight (Saturday night) and the wind was so gnarly fast and cold. Just glad to be home!

Ok, I’m home, unloaded and exhausted.

Trip report:

Walker and I left home at 3pm Thursday with Jordan and Jaxon.

I had barely met Jordan before. His son Jaxon and my son Walker are friend at school and I knew Jordan had a newer jeep on 35s.

I texted him an invite weeks ago with minimal details and he was “in” from the beginning. His only and I mean ONLY question was what we used for coms. My man.

My dad had left Ojai around 8am in his raptor and picked up my cousin Durand along the way. They got a flat tire on his 2019 raptor on the way up. Quick fix and they got to Briggs camp about 2:30.
The upper (larger) cabin I was hoping for was taken but they secured the smaller “stone cabin”

Walker, Jordan Jaxon and I grabbed a quick dinner in Mojave. Somewhere outside of Ridgecrest Brian and Seth @Motiracer38 caught up to us and chimed in on the radio.

We all 3 got fuel in Trona as the sun got low.

Brain was smart enough to air down in Trona so while Jordan and I aired down at the Ballarat turn off Brian and Seth started the climb up to Briggs.

Jordan’s offroad experience was limited to fire roads, Pismo beach and some other mild trails.
He was in for a treat as the horizon turned dark, we flipped on lights and started the very steep climb to Briggs. It was a pretty intimidating climb in the dark considering the length of our relationship (about 4 hours total at this point 😂)

By 9PM at lower Briggs we had
my dad
Myself
Jordan
And Brian.

The cabin has a great solar and light system so we all sat on the patio having a drink getting to know each other and enjoyed the beauty and remoteness of the canyon.

@SByota and Tiny left home at 5am Friday and were at camp by 9 am.

Walker and Jaxon played some board games at the dining room table.
IMG_7334.jpeg

We started as a group farther up the canyon, passed “chicken rock” onto the “South Park loop” then connects to Pleasant Canyon.

The trail gets very skinny. My dad, Jordan and I headed back to hang at the cabin while Brian, Seth, Brad and Tiny made the 5 hour loop.

mid afternoon my Buddy Paul showed up in his TTB van with his 2 daughters Grace and Emma.
Along the way he found @Ckuebert who was moving slow trying to keep his transmission from over heating.

By 4pm Friday everyone was back at camp, some PewPew and plink plink occurred to keep the kids entertained. Thanks Brad for serving as range master (and putting targets strangely close to my truck! 🫣)

I enjoyed a lap around camp, “Dinner Safari” as I call it.
(Walk around camp at dinner time and enjoy all the smells)

Friday night the kids got rowdy, it warmed my heart. We finally put an end to the kids fun at 11:30PM when we all turned in.

This pic turned out great,

Fire pit down on the valley floor, and a fire pit on the patio deck

Smiles and good times all around.
