"Everyone's desktop background" 87 Toyota 1450

Figured I would document some of the build of the build of my old 1987 Toyota xtracab pickup build that I started in 2007...The truck is long gone from my ownership but is still cruising around Mexico City somewhere in a Marty McFly theme. I'm glad to see it continued to get used and didn't rot away somewhere or get totaled. I don't feel like writing up a whole novel on the build but I'll post the main points of the build over a few posts.

When the second owner painted it and raced NORRA for a few years. He did a killer job really making it iconic:



And what it looks like last I knew. It's been around Mexico City for probably 10 years now:

i remeber when it went up for sale before mexico. i wanted it so badly but it was just out of my price range. its sad thats its turned it just an instagram flex instead of being properly used

I was wondering why anyone would build a truck that was so nice with zero up-travel when seeing it for the first time on instagram. Looks like they lost almost 2/3 of it.

Yeahhh…it did at least race for a few years. I was just glad to see it still in existence at least but it’s definitely just a cartel IG show piece now

The truck had been sitting in a RV storage lot for years. Somehow one of my friends ran into the owner and I bought it for $1500. Threw a new battery and fuel in it and drove it 30 miles home. It already had a sketchy cage in it and some rotten old Beard seats. Project for sure.

First order of business was to remove the janky flux welded cage...

Sometime in 2007/2008: Cage stripped, started slinging some tubing. Never fabricated before, but scrolled enough DR and Race-Dezert and took a welding class at the local CC, so good enough.
