Carly's 96

No one will see it and hammered black makes everything look better.

I had to clearance a bit of the body mount for the leaf spring shackle but only a small piece. The shock mount plate fits and leaves wiggle room for tabs. The leaf spring perches are welded on and the pinion angle set. Its under its own weight on stands.

Its dusty but it holds its own weight. I needed to flip it around to figure out my shock mounts. I will say I really like the way it sits.

These are pretty. Im going to try a 350 disc disc master and 2 lb residuals. Also looking into running my own disc setup in the rear and working these up front inside the alcoas along with the rear.

Finally got a minute to pull apart some stuff and get the rotors on the axles. Inboard rotors means harder maintenance however, all 4 corners run the same rotor. I need to make the brackets for the axle but waiting on pads. Also plenty of droop. Ill measure for straps while I’m in there.

1.75 .120 sleeved with 1.5 .120 wall should hold. There will be tabs with 3 7/16 bolts that will hold the tube to the plates. Waiting on more tabs and avoiding leaf disassembly like the plague.

pent a bit of time working on Carly’s bronco this weekend. Finished the shock mount minus the actual shock tabs. Its tight but it fits and bolts up. Also deleafed the rear and started cycling suspension. Need to clearance the mount underneath. Trying not to completely cut it out and cover it back up.

Five long years but the bypasses are on. Got the shock mount done and cycled the suspension. Flattened i still have 5.5” of space so im going to let the springs go negative just a bit to get a little extra.

Alright 1 caliper bracket down. The wheel fits and i glued the outside down. I need to remove the axle and weld the inside but ran out of time. I know its not big 11” rotors but i still think the rear calipers will help alot.

Finished the shock mounts on the axle and one of the two bump pads. Itll have a 1/4” gusset internally thatll get welded on before the pad. Theres a slot the gusset will get welded to.

Made the upper limit strap mount and welded one pad on. Cycling 12” in the rear bumped and strapped so all in all not terrible. Should be able to start reassembly next weekend once i finish the passenger side.

Spent the weekend pulling the leafs apart and checking over the leafs, finished the brake install finally, and bolted all rear suspension parts. Last is limit strap mounts, transfer case reseal, and brake lines. Also a front bumper but we’ll worry about that later.

The back is under its own weight. All that is left is the fuel pump / sender and the brake hard lines.

Skid repainted, tank installed (drained 20 gallons of old gas. Should be fun to get rid of) and cut an access hole for future. Also i replaced the bad sender and some other boring stuff.

Ill seal the cover and screw it down. All the brake lines are done. I swapped to a newer master with a 1.25” bore. Hopefully it works for having discs front and rear. I may have 1 small leak but the rear is good. Its finally getting close.

Fist off, bumper jacks for the win. Ghetto lift for the less fortunate

. Got the wheels back off. My wife will drop them off to be balanced with the right weights. Added the residual valve and was able to get air out of the rear brakes and they feel alot better. I replaced then pinion seal so hopefully thats fixed. Hoping to pick the kids up from school friday in it tor a maiden voyage.
