First things first pulled a spring from the ruf pack that was on the runner they work good but I’m trying to keep this thing as low as I can and cut a lot of the fenders and body off it I need to. I was going to French the hangers but I’m lazy and have a lot to get done in a short amount of time.

The anti wrap leaf on top is great idea broke a lot of spring packs before I found that out. 🍻

Got the motor and trans out and most of the front end stuff off time to start cleaning the frame and Sas it. Anyone ever run stock rears in the back reversed? I was gonna put 63’s but I kinda don’t like how far back the shackle hangers are I’m gonna build a bed and want this thing to not be a boat.

Got all the ifs junk cut off and the rear axle pulled all the dash and wiring ripped out going to mount the front and rear axles tomorrow I had to notch a lot of the body mounts out to get the front hanger where I wanted it and the right distance to mount the shackles. But I’m gonna do boat sides and weld the cab to them anyways so not a big deal.

Didn’t get anything done today really but I did build the rear spring packs and hung the rear axle in place I had some problems with eyes of the rear springs being pretty clapped with the new bushings so I squished them in the press and let them sit for a few and it ended up closing the eye enough for the bushing to be a tight fit.

For anyone wondering it’s about the time you should leave them in, it’s about the time it takes to smoke an American spirit and drink a beer. 🍻 pull them any sooner and the holes still clapped.

If I can get these springs to work I’ll have a sweet departure angle after bobbing the bed just like I wanted I seen a lot of samurai’s run the springs like this so i will see how they work before I cut the bed up.

Engine in and front axle is mocked up need to get the trans in too and set it on its own weight before I burn it all in make sure the shackle angle is good. 🍻 I’ll post more updates tomorrow after I cut the trans tunnel and get the trans mounted.

Cut most of the tunnel and got the trans mated to the engine I don’t really want to deal with lifting the engine more so I guess it won’t be a true flat belly but it’s way closer then it would be with the trail gear crossmember I have. Also the floor is a lot worse then I thought maybe some baby boat sides are gonna come sooner then I thought.

Ended up starting on the crossmember and making sure the seats were gonna fit, I’d say they’re just about the perfect size 🍻 gonna finish the crossmember mounts and build the frame for the tunnel if I get around to it I’ll cut the fenders. Things gonna be slick.

Well the project is snowballing after seeing how bad the floor is I’m making the decision to cut the whole thing out this weekend. I bought a bunch more tube and sheet metal gonna build sliders/mini boatsides and mount the cab to the sliders and tube out the floor. I should cut the fire wall out and move the motor back a bit but I’m just gonna leave it how it is. It’s supposed to be a weekend wheeler/daily driver anyways.

This is looking sick!!! I’m wondering about your shackle angle? Is is 90° when the wheels are off the ground, then when u drop it is tilts back like that? I’m just not sure what you are looking for when u mount front leaf springs. I’m currently doing my first sas and I’m not quite doing the front springs yet but im just curious. Also u work fast!! so cool to see the thing coming along 🤘🏼🤘🏼

That photo the frame is on jack stands axle is at full droop with weight the angle is correct. 🍻

It also is gonna depend on what springs you’re gonna run if they are brand new the shackle angle might be a little bad at first but will settle as the springs break in.

Got some stuff done over the weekend I built sliders and cut the rockers out of the cab and welded the cab to the sliders and tied it all into the frame it should be a really strong base for the cage and floor it’s turning more and more into a tube chassis as it goes on I’m thinking I should of started with something cleaner. Oh well. 🤷🏻‍♂️🍻🤠🥳
