What GPS do you guys have? Or do you have a phone APP on a phone or Ipad type deal? (I have tried ONX and AllTrails) A little hard to use on my small IPhone 13mini.

Do you use StarLink?

I am BAD with technology. I have some old Lowrance GPS units in my truck and I have no idea how to work them. They are Lowrance Global Map Baja 540c and a Lowrance Global Map 7200c. If any of you know how to operate these and can give me a lesson; I would pay for your time.

Or should I just get an IPad and Starlink and some GPS App? I often just follow along with people because I have no idea where to go. But I like to go on long point A-B trips and would like to know how to mark my trips etc so I can do them again.

Thanks for the help dudes!

Been running an Amazon refurb iPad and onx (previously motion x) for like 10yrs. Lags a little for high speed turns etc but not bad for not racing.
Just got a Starlink earlier this year

Lowrance and Garmin are awesome but for what you do the Ipad would probably be a better fit. You will have more app options and usability with the Ipad, though the screen can be hard to see in certain sunlight and they dont like direct heat. OnX, Gaia and Motion X if you can still get it. Learn OnX and Gaia and you'll be good, its not that hard to figure out. Either way, get the Starlink and make sure everyone can see the cool mount etc....gotta keep that cool factor up! lol

I just got a Starlink Mini but haven't used it yet. For the guys who have Starlink, how are you guys mounting it to your rig?
So far I’ve only ised my mini for chasing in a stock truck and oh my Superduty tow rig, I put some Amazon bolt in rubber coated magnets on the stock pole mount that comes with the mini. So far so good. Probably get one of the fire entinguisher style quick release mounts for the prerunner.

Been running a Lowrance Baja 540C since 2006, I often move it from vehicle to vehicle. It is pretty much outdated but it is simple to use. I am all about an accurate speedometer and the ability to mark camp and leave breadcrumbs. We did just recently pick up a Starlink Mini, only used it at camp over Thanksgiving. I plan on getting a mount or making one and hardwiring it onto the Raptor.

Unlike you fancy apple-users, Im a BIIIG android guy and "osmand" seems to be the best/simplest GPS app to use. Stupidly easy. Ive got the app on my phone and also on a couple of cheap-o (sub $120) samsung Tab A tablets that have built-in GPS. No starlink needed.

Well la dee da Steve LOL. I suck at technology...period. I will be fucked when I am older...no kids to teach me what's up. I am sure I'll be paying neighbor kids or something to help my ass with computers and whatever else they invent in the future ha ha!

You and me both... except Im not planning on paying neighbor kids to "cOmE oVeR tO tEaCh Me TeChNoLoGy". Im just going to die quietly in a nursing home while watching re-runs of die hard movies whilst randomly shouting "yipee ki yay motherfucker" to the underpaid nurse thats 3hrs late to changing my diaper. Oh, and in this story im only in my mid 50s.

Looking for a roommate?

I used to have a Samsung tablet mounted to my dash running Orux maps with my phone hotspot but that's all outdated now so I had my wife hold my phone when leading last time out. Since that didn't work so stellar I've been looking into an Android head unit and a new GPS. I've been meaning to look into the OsmAnd that Steve mentioned but may end up paying for Onyx as it does have user created trails that are helpful in open areas.

I did it like you Motiracer38...my phone is small and the ONX was hard to operate etc. My buddy I usually go with doesn't have patience for my Technology downfalls. So I just end up following him and we usually do an okay clip. But if I got lost solo...I would be fucked.

We need to do a meet out in one of the deserts sometime and you guys can show me what to get...how to operate it, etc. I will pay for anyones time.
