VSS relocation ideas, ford 5r55e

Mechanical is what I'm thinking. I could swap out a rear caliper for one with the parking brake, but the cables are expensive. Plus this way I can get a stronger brake from the gear multiplication.

I know Wilwood does a small mechanical parking brake caliper, Wilwood so not cheap. They also do an electric parking brake setup as well.

when you get a chance could you give me a count and possibly a diameter? after driving it around for several miles, it does throw a code but does not change drivability any.
sorry i have been busy with life and 2 little kids. i will have some free time today before i take my daughter to get her shots ill get some pictures and a tooth count

Bodj I’ve installed some Parts Mike Atlas emergency brake kits on some jeeps and they use that exact style brake caliper. You’ll be good.

Also emergency brake cables can be made pretty cheap.

Hi everyone, new to the forum seeking help with a vss and my ford ranger dually swap.

Hi, I have a 2002 ford ranger and I'm wanting to do a dually swap from a 1986 toyota rv read end that does not have a speed sensor, but I need to somehow add a vss so everything (transmission and speedo) works properly.

I'm not sure if it will be easier to instal a tone ring with a speed sensor to the transmission output shaft instead of the diff?

I'm not really familiar with this but this is what a forum member told me I should do to make it work. But i see that some of you have fabricated a tone ring.

Ford has 2 different rear axles for the Ranger:

7.5" => 102 tooth

8.8" => 108 tooth

So, if you're going with picking up the pulses from the pinion snout or transmission output, you want a ring with. (Assuming Toy axle has 4.1 gears)

108/4.10 = 26.34 teeth (8.8") or 102/4.10 = 24.87 teeth....so somewhere between 25 and 26 teeth depending on how you want to manufacture it. Then, you don't need to worry about any additional electronics to get the pulse close enough for practical purposes.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Mine is off the driveshaft and works great

I just made a tone ring for my f150, I think it’s about 4.3”, 16 teeth

View attachment 34862Ok so I finally had some spare time. Ring is 4 1/2 inches around and there is 24 tooth. Speedo is off 3mph according to onX and LeadNav
Could you please tell me how you made it and how you were able to figure out where to make all the cuts, or who made it for you?

Thanks

I cut out a piece of 3/16 as close to a circle as I could, used a hole saw to cut a hole in the middle, then chucked it up in a lathe to make the outside perfect. Then cut all the notches with a dremel, definitely took some time

Thanks for replying, is there a pattern online or how we're you able to figure out the spacing/tooth So all of theme are space evenly?

No pattern, I just started drawing lines kinda like slicing a pizza. I used a caliper to make sure spacing was even. The teeth are actually slightly smaller than the gap, as long as the magnetic sensor picks up the “skip”
