Update on the 1st Gen Sequoia

So, it has begun. I just sold the rear bumper and I have an appointment for front and rear bumpers to get fabricated for me. Along with a tire holder that will live inside the back. I do have a couple issues though, the pressure vent needs to be relocated when I go to generate more clearance by cutting some of the rear panel. Two I'm going to need some advice on how to paint the bumper once it's welded on I definitely don't want that rust. I'm talking to solo Motorsports about a rear three-link setup to match the long travel setup they have already available. But this is going to cost an arm and a leg probably and I'm going to need to save up for that. I don't know as much about the sequoia rear suspension, but going with a ruffstuff rear 3link kit or a barnes4wd one and having a fab shop throw it on might be a better option for the rear.

When I spoke with Solo they pretty much told me 3-lunk is the way to go

Stock these are 4 link with a panhard bar, ya? I would assume the limiting factor in getting more travel out of the stock setup would be fitting a longer shock in there without either cutting into the floor or lifting it to the moon. Are you trying to avoid cutting into the body?

I've always thought the Geiser built LX570 that Lexus raced in SCORE a few years back (and I think canguaro racing has since rebadged as land cruiser) was cool and handled amazing. That one is getting 15" of travel by running coilovers and bypasses through the floor to the cage (or some kind of shock hoop), while keeping the stock 4 link with a panhard. Obviously a different truck and your milage may vary, but something to consider:

Yeah, 15" of travel is totally possible with more or less stock geometry. Just make sure to keep the panhard bar as close to level as posssible and get rid of the weak stock links/gusset everything. If a rear 3 link or 3 link with a panhard is in the budget then definitely go for it.

Yeah budget is my biggest concern, I am also worried about strength of parts. She's a hefty girl lol. I'm looking to keep up on desert runs not jump dunes. To my understanding no many have attempted this so thank you to everyone for any and all ideas.

yeah, there's a few upgraded rear link kits for the sequoia. just make sure all of the stock link mounts are well gusseted so they dont shear off or bend.

I am going to build my 1st gen tree one day. I'm going to go with a 3 link in the rear AND cantilever coilovers to keep everything under the bed. Then I will do a swingout tire carrier on rear bumper. I am also gonna see about doing a sway bar through cantilever tube like Wicked Creations does on their 4Runner FJ Cruiser and Tacoma rear 3 link.

The one confusing part about their kit photos is it shows both frame side link mounts AND the panhard bar mount BUT it doesn't show the new upper link mount that goes on the passenger side of the axle.

I know @sdecurti has a 3 link on the rear of his 4 runner and it works well BUT you HAVE to make sure the panhard bar is as LONG and as FLAT as possible to prevent the rear from jacking as it cycles.

Giant Motorsports does a 3 link on their daily driver link setup now as well. So it's not an uncommon thing to do on rear of the go fast trucks.

Humm that's food for thought. Are you worried about the constant bouncing on the swing out wearing on the hinge point? Also, I am a bit confused bc the 4runner and fj rears are not completely comparable. I am looking for #1 strength and #2 travel.

I'm not since I'd use a double roller bearing trailer spindle style swingout tire carrier. I've used them a lot in the past without issues. I will also put a 1/2" Spring Loaded Pull Pin to hold it open in a few different positions since I'm going to have a table on the inside of it so I can cook and such from that if I want to.

Alrighty everyone, here is a big update. Front bumper is pretty much done. Suspension looks like it's going to have to wait. Work bonus didn't come thru lol. Please let me know what you all think about it.

Here's the rear, I wanted to keep it very simple. Also protecting panels was important. As any other SUV owners know it's rough having a rear bumper fabricated due to the cabin vent. This is needed so you can close the doors and operate the AC. I was able to find a four cam one that has a filter and cover to reduce dust from entering the cabin. Let me know what you all think as well as the color I should paint the bumpers.

The tire carrier I having made as we speak. It is going to be in the back area.

Nice. I'm doing a drawer setup to have my fullsize air mattress onto so wanting to keep everything out of the back besides my cooler mount and tools and spare parts in the drawers.

Almost there, just need to finish priming the front then a coat of flat black on all the tubing. If anyone thinks another color would be better let me know.
