Rusty Red

Are you tying the angle iron that's bolted to what looks to be the bushing mounted core support to the solid mounted engine cage tubes? Curious because I've been thinking about a similar thing but that just bolts to the bushing bolts and will support the radiator without having to be solid mounted to the frame.

The new radiator mount is removable to allow me to easily pull the radiator/fan assembly to work on the engine. There is zero room to do anything once everything is installed.

The factory rubber body mounts are long gone. When I first put the roll cage in, it was only tied to the body at floor pan. I had cracks everywhere!

The only factory body mounts that exist now, are the rear cab ones. They really don’t do anything as the cage is tied to the body all over the place now. The front core support body mounts are just pieces of tubing now. So basically everything in the truck is solid mounted. The engine/trans are mounted on urethane bushings, but really don’t move at all.

I’ll tie in the new engine cage to what’s left of the core support to further unify the whole thing. No more watching the cab dance around through bumps.

Got it, I thought I spied factory mounts on the rad core support when I was actually looking at the steel tubing you added.

Lots more work today. Motor comes out for the last time tomorrow so I can weld up the engine cage, add gussets etc.

Made a new transmission filler tube/ dipstick holder with some china AN10 fittings. This thing WILL be at KOH…..making V8 noises. IMG_5954.webpIMG_5958.webpIMG_5959.webpIMG_5960.webp

Motor out for the last time. It comes out with all the front accessories, exhaust manifold and motor mounts attached. I’ll weld up the engine cage, give it a quick rattle can paint job and starting installing everything for good. V8 noises real soon!

Finished welding the engine cage, reinforced the motor mounts and threw some paint on the bare metal. Engine bay is ready for a V8!

I’ll build a cross brace once the engine is in and running. I am really focusing on only doing things that are absolutely essential for KOH shenanigans. Motor goes in tomorrow!

Tried like hell to make V8 noises in his weekend, but came up a little short. I’m close though!

The old crusty thermostat housing refused to come apart without braking and the 26 year old heater valve also disintegrated. Parts ordered, next weekend! 🤞🏻IMG_6004.webpIMG_6006.webpIMG_6005.webp

I think I paid less than that for OEM buying online and picking up at a dealer. Simi Valley Toyota has such a program. A couple around me in LA do too.

I think I’ve had only one og valve out of several of those not break when removing it.
