KOH Fireworks issue / discussion

KOH seems like a total s show this year. Vendors having product stolen at night, fireworks issues, and everything else you are seeing on social. I am just bench racing at this point, as I have no desire to go ever again.

I have seen some people say this year was better "less trash" "less Fireworks" which if true is good, but social media is spinning it the opposite direction. Quite frankly the comments everyone is making about "f the closure just drive around them" "I only go for the party at night" "the gov cant shut it down" is all so stupid to me.

In my old man mind, i see this as something that is too good to be true, and will come crashing down if they dont get some control. Did i hear someone died this year at night at CT?(dont quote me on that) its only a matter of time before lots of people die due to an accident...... and guess who will be liable? BLM, our state, and promoter. Same thing happened at the MDR night race. BLM took a hit for that, because they knew it was dangerous and did nothing. How is this not the same?

This event has become too big, and is bringing in the wrong crowd, while most everyone on here is respectful and the right people.... with that many out there, there is enough that arent the right crowd and they truely dont care about offroad or what happens to it. They will be gone next year drifting their chargers into tortas.

I went up to Johnson Valley yesterday to sell some parts and then buy some parts. i heard about the CT death rumor being one of the people from the fight video. Not sure if true as one of my other in the know sources had not heard about it when i asked him. hopefully just a rumor. But i do think youre right. Just like the MDR night race, IF something tragic happens its gonna be the end!

I haven’t been to KOH

I would love to go out to KOH, but from the outside looking in it seems like a shit show and my old man brain says “meh I’m good”

20 something year old me would have had a blast.

I’m sure it has stuff to offer me, and I’m sure I could have a good time. I feel like there are other events out there that I could get more out of. And I may be completely wrong 🤷

I was only there Friday and Saturday last week and had a great time being with friends and doing some wheeling. Definitely tons of stupid people, but the real idiots come out at night. I knocked out in the back of Mikey's explorer while we were heading back down Turkey Claw, and crawled into bed when we got back around 10:30pm. It was glorious.

My point being - it's not hard to stay away from the poop show. I'm going back up Saturday morning with the crawler.

We have had property a few miles from the lake bed since the 1950’s. Its a bummer what has happened out there. When glamis and ocotillo were the places to be back in early to mid 2000’s, Johnson valley was still a pretty well kept secret. Really since hammer’s started, the influx of people has really changed the place. Tons more people buying properties around there, trails are getting constant traffic. Its a bummer. I cant see this continuing for much longer, the race weekends are absolute f&ckery, but thanksgiving weekends are going the same direction… i get the economic benefits for the surrounding areas, but unfortunately, with that comes a fair amount of BS … rant over, back to yelling at the clouds

i have not had any desire to attend KOH in the past 4 years. theres to many people (and as they say good roads, bad people, bad roads good people). just can enjoy it. i like being with friends, and other like minded people. but this event has destroyed this area and the fun it once was. the amount of money it cost for fuel, food, event cost, only to always have your head on a swivel for a$$holes with there buzzballs drinks driving like they are the main event all day and all night.

oh, and these kids in the beer throwing video, the agreement is fine but the "leader" should get.... more of his attitude back at him,

not my place to give my time or money.

For me ... I just stay away from the shit show and it's a great time... We hit CT one night to show a few buddies that have never been was there for about 45 mins and saw all I need to see. We go out there and spend all our time at night wheeling other trails. (Other than CT and Backdoor) and hanging out with all the rad people our there around the fire or the various other things happening out there.. We did tacos in the dunes, The Forty, Ultra 3, Hammer HQ, our camp fire, etc .

Despite all the negative bullshit you see on social media.. KOH is a bad ass event. If you want to look for the negatives and reasons not to go, there is plenty, (the cost, the crowds, the dust, the madness, etc). If you want to look at the positives each year I have gone I have had memories and friendships that will last a life time.

Like anything in life, it's what you make of it.

What do you feel like is needed to change, if anything, to keep the event problem free and potentially being cancelled due to wild / illegal activities at night or during the day?

ways to fix it.
1. dui check point
2. close BD and CT at a certain time
3. not that i like it, but more inforcement around.

The craziness is driven by lack of oversite... same thing happen at Terra del Sol and that is run by a bunch of older gentleman who arent being the crazy ones... but you get everyone out drinking at night and big groups attract crazy... you find a way to limit the big crowds with the thought that its not a free for all, i think you reduce crazy.
