Could probably save a few pennies doing yoga at home

You should 100% do **** for the weld sections.

and yoga........... my aunt pays for, thankfully.

This is just personal preference from me, no actual engineering. But if you are laser/what ever cutting the plate I really like using "C" or arch shapes. Its like a normal hole but it connects the cut out together. Its also super easy to weld because you are basically just filling the slot, and it harder for a stress crack to form.

Why are you not just having Tommy cut some out for you?
I was being serious… does he not fab anymore ? Or Bob?

are you talking about cutting out the overlay/doubler plates im putting on the outside of the frame? the plates i posted pics of?

i have a new plasmacam machine at work that i can use to cut them. plus Tommy lives a good hour away from me. farther than Willis now.
yes, he still has his own fab business and is doing just fine with it. so yes, he still does fab? and Bob is........ just Bob. haha. he does whatever makes him some money.

I would do slots as well as you are trying to laminate the frame.

coolio. so just slots. is there any placement/way to arrange them/pattern i should do for more strength, or......???

i remember from school and stuff that STRAIGHT lines are a big no no.

and my TBI OCD is going to go crazy making all these patterns equal/symmetrical/evenly spaced, but i just threw these slots in for an idea.

something like this.............

(insert everyone's comments about how i should cut a big ol diq an ballz in the plates. har har har)

Just do straight lines, diagonals, whatever. You're just making those to keep the middle of the plate affixed to the frame. Make them 1/4"-3/8" wide, and fill them with one pass. You can honestly get away without even doing them and be fine. You could probably even weld in the holes from the backside of the frame to the overlay plates to save effort and keep it cleaner looking. You're greatly overthinking this.

You're making a lot of work for yourself. Straight lines, vertical or diagonal (easier to weld than horizontal, since tying into the top edge of the slot will be an overhead weld...) and go.
