Doesn't seem like there's many of these being built. I guess getting up to 13" from a +3 kit isn't that fun, my mid travel Ranger got that much metal to metal after some cutting. Is the coil spring rear suspension hard to deal with? I'm aware companies make new links and replacement springs. Seems like decent aftermarket support for bolt on accessories such as lights, exhaust, interior bits, etc.

Motor problems aside, whats the deal with these?

The 2nd gen trucks could pull 13" with just a coilover and uniball arm if I remember right. They were big boys from the factory, I would expect the 3rd gen to be similar but I don't know.

Too much moolah for me.

My dad had a 2nd Gen he bought new in 08 until 2 years ago when it just wasn’t worth putting any money into (truck lived in the rust belt and just couldn’t justify it at 220k miles). He bought a brand new 23 and kept it for 3 months before trading it in for a 21 with low miles. He really didn’t like the V6 for engine braking down long steep grades and the rear leg room was much less for the largest cab that came with a 6 foot bed. It had one of those annoying electric e-brakes that engages whenever you’re in park and won’t let go if the battery dies and the range sucked compared to his 2nd gens so he’d have to gas up whenever he was in the middle of nowhere instead of making it to his usual spots he filled up at. I know this doesn’t apply to prerunners, but he didn’t like towing with it like he can with the 5.7.

Valid points. What trim level did your dad have? Everyone seems to say the hybrid trims are better due to the added torque even though fuel economy doesn't improve and under seat rear storage is gone. I'll have to check rear seat room on the crew cabs to see what they're actually like, I haven't been back there for any extended amount of time or with a car seat. I won't be towing nearly ever, which is the main reason I'm wanting to go from my diesel 2500 to a gas full size truck.

There was a guy on DR that had a white 2nd gen when they first came out, I remember him noting the "LT" kit he had from TC or burg only got 12" travel. That was several years and a few concussions ago so I might be misremembering.

What years are 3rd gen tundra ? I have a 2013 Tundra Crew Max thing is massive in inside and out. Its got an upper and 2.5 ADS 's on it all the way around and it does pretty well for what it is. Wheeled it a little bit in the Dunes in Glamis shes a big bitch.

Non-hybrid and another one of his gripes was no under-seat storage if you flip the back seats up - he stored coolers and hunting gear there before. If hybrid extends the range, that would be a plus. I see the 3rd Gen as a TacomaXL rather than a full size pickup when it comes to towing and that stuff. If a Tacoma is just too small but the rest of the drivetrain and features would meet your needs, the 3rd Gen Tundra might be good.

COPY haha Bigggg Tundra guy as you can tell. haha I was just so fired that Mac is back to resume is moderation duties.. I had to post up my vast Tundra knowledge 🤡

The new ones are nice. but if the plan it so to get something to actually off road... I'd go Raptor. Rode in a buddies out a KOH and holy shit thing for bone stock rips!

I can’t comment on their suspension, but the dudes on the Tundras.com forums seem to complain about a lot of things wrong with them, even outside of the engine issues. Panel fitment, rattles, electrical failures, etc. Most of them who went from a second gen to third regret it and try to get back to a second gen.

FWIW, I’m at least partially biased. I bought my 2014 brand new and don’t plan on selling it, though I kind of want to sell all my cars and get a new TRX when they come back later this year. I’ve had exactly zero issues with my Tundra. I have a double cab and my kids, 9 and 3, fit in the back seats without issue. Even full size dudes can fit in the back without issue.
