2022 DMC Thanksgiving Take 9

Another one for the books.

Out at Cuddeback dry lake this year. We had probably 60ish peeps or so this year. Some arrived as early at Tuesday and stayed until Sunday AM

We always do a big Thanksgiving potluck, then a Chilli cook-off one of the nights. A few big group runs.

Here's the weekend from my end.

We rolled out of town about 11am Wednesday. Towing the 4runner behind RV hit dirt about 2:00pm

Got RV unloaded just in time for a little Dusk rip.

Next morning was a brisk one!

We rallied the troops for a "quick little run" to Quail spring...
But first I had to install a fresh Yotamaster sticker

Picked up some OG Oly cans.

At this point was only 11 miles from camp but with half of the trucks being basically covered wagons it was a slow go....

"Hey, I saw another road to get back to camp quicker" - yours truly....

Which quickly led to this....

@sdecurti living the 2wd life down some steep section.. It wasn't so much an issue of going down it was more of if we had to come back up what were we going to do. So we decided with Thanksgiving dinner prep looming, it was best to save this one for another day and head back with the devil we knew.

wives were less than impressed...

After trying to just winch him up I asked Brian if he thought the Jeep would be able to just pull him up... hes like
"Probably... let's try it" with 5:1 atlas case.. thing went into full tractor mode and drug him back with ease.

After some shit talking, we were back underway...

Back to camp about 3 1/2 hrs from our departure ... I started my turkey in the smoker haha. Luckily @Oldmanadam and Reene had a 28lb bird already on the BBQ. and @theycallmeWALLY had his bird on Traeger plus 2 hams... so we were gunna be solid on meat products.

The wind was ripping pretty good so we decided against setting up the big white tent we usually set up. So we improvised.

Dinner was served

Next Am was another brisk one.

We rallied the troops again for our main run over to Last Chance Canyon.

@sdecurti was a Gentleman and led the UTVs viva dirt which from the sounds of it was a mission in itself with how hammered the trails were.
We hung out for and bit and let the Kids and dogs run around.

Installed another Deckal on the shit box while we waited

Once he arrived we started up the canyon.

bonus lines only for us in the front.

Incase anyone was why The Mouse wasn't along for trip... look no further than right here.

As we went further things got a bit more spicy for some of the truck we were with...

Metcho and I continued to take the dumbest lines possible.

We pulled up to the v notch... where a couple dirt bikers and a whole bunch of UTVS were stopped... They asked me if I was going to try the v notch? I was like yea thats the plan. He says " I don't think you are gunna get that thing through there." I just smiled. I stepped up to the plate and a crowd gathered.

Finally Conquered this Vnotch was pretty simple in the new ride... last time I was here in 2014 I was a little scared of scratching the Rover or blowing a window as I had it up for sail... haha well times have changed.

EV-E had enough of Last Chance Canyon.

Things began to drag on as we made our way out of the canyon. To Bickel camp

A little snack before piling back in to drive out to camp

Until it wasn't. The Trail out was rad... epic views and fun river rock switch backs that we had to climb.

but it certainly wasn't all puppies and rainbows.... it was about 3 hrs too long .. I think out total run end up being 7 hrs or so.. Lots of stops with how many vehicles/people we had made for a longgggggggg day on the trail. Which is what it is, but with kids it makes things rough....
we all did our best to make the most of it... live look in of me being an idiot while my daughter melting down in the back ahaha

Wife was less than impressed

We pulled back into camp around dusk. All and all the kids did great and we made it back to camp warm inside 4 runner and safe and truck was still running like a champ! Pretty much all you can ask for. Got back to camp and fired up the smoker and made some smoked meatballs.

The chilli cook off was pushed back to the following day as most of our participants were out on the trail all day as well

Next AM was even more brisk!

Whipped up some pancakes for the kids.
and loaded up the bikes

As I was loading up my little dude asked me if he could come I was like sure dude! he was so pumped
We loaded his Stacyc up and hit the pike to Ridgecrest.

As we got higher in elevation the trail began to become more exposed. Finally, C realized the exposure and was like " DAD! This is sketch can we turn around!" I told him, "of course bud."

We loaded up and hit the road back to camp.

We got back to camp and the Womens retreat had already been underway for some time in @theycallmeWALLY 's coach.

after that... it was time for a little pinata action... for @GimmeSand Bday.

After the pinata, I walked over and was BSing with @theycallmeWALLY about his ribs and chili...

Through the dust between the RVs I spot @the_fablab_

Metcho and I loaded up in the shit box for recovery efforts. @Derekkoral was on his way back to camp and stopped to see what was up.

@Derekkoral lied to me and told me I was majestic....

They mess around trying to figure out why truck was misfiring.. I offered the shit box up for recovery to get it back to camp.

Pulled out the umbilical cord hooked up the old bless mobile and drug her back to camp.

Saturday night 6pm sharp... was the chili cook off!

ended up being super close between 5 chilis. I took the L with 13 votes.

Sunday AM was here unfortunately ! was time to pack up shop and head home!

This guy got me quite a few thumbs up and smiles on the way home haha.

Spotted this guy on the way home in Lancaster.. nice truck! I'm pretty sure he had a BTF sticker on the door

Good Times! So rad getting all the growing families together for a big trip like this each year. All the kids and dogs playing, the dirtmiles and the campfire war stories. Seeing the evolution of the different trucks or camping apparatuses. Crazy to think next year will be the 10th year of this trip.
