Picked up this bad mamma jamma Friday last week (4/8/22) from a kid at the highschool I teach at (lol). Did a quick delete on the rock solid, Free Agent seat, and have put 4.5 miles on it, cruising around the neighborhood once and to work and back once. In that short amount of time, I learned that my legs suck.

I grew up riding dirtbikes (and still do), but figured it would be nice to be able to hit dirt midweek, especially since we live in one of the best areas for mountain bikes in the nation. Stoked to really try it out next week!

I believe it's all stock with Azonic platform pedals. I'll most likely upgrade the forks and shock as I go. Forks have no adjustability, and the shock has no lockout.

Get some clipless pedals and shoes, it'll take some getting used to but your pedal power and "@one'ness" w/ the bike is way worth it. I only ride my platforms when cruising around town.

I'm planning on it. Plus being able to pedal by pulling up will be nice. Going to run these for a bit. Just paid for the honeymoon, plane tickets, and wedding rings so I need to recoup some funds haha.

Alright, so I initially was planning on completing a sprint triathlon otherwise I don't have much motivation to exercise. I quickly decided that's dumb. I hate running and don't have easy access to a pool for swimming. So I've just been riding my bike again. Goal is to go at least once a week, with a goal of 2 times (shooting to go every Tuesday after work + one extra day whenever I have time/pending weather).

My bike is definitely geared towards park use, but I have it already and upgrading to a newer enduro model isn't in the funds with house projects, multiple truck projects, and a baby on the way. I've elected to keep the bike and upgrade a bit to help out. Plans for now are new tires (Specialized Ground Control Sports) and converting to tubeless, clipless pedals and shoes, and finding new-to-me forks and shock on FB marketplace. Being a 26" bike I haven't had much luck finding forks. I may just try out a fork for 27.5 and see how it feels. Going to ditch the lights since the days are getting longer now.

Here are my recent rides.

No plans as of now to join the Thursday evening rides. I know full and well I can't keep up.

Hell yea dude... I'm down to cruise out. I haven't been riding hardly at all in the last year. There are tons of crazy deals on bikes right now... I'd hold off on spending any money on this sled on upgrades and just put that towards a newer used bike and honestly as much as it pains me to say it I think E-bike is the best bang for your buck... smiles per miles.

Yeah man, bring your bike to work on day and let's cruise after. I typically leave the long canyon parking lot at 4pm, but I'm down to ride Wildwood or somewhere else.

Meh, old technology doesn't bother me. Of course newer is better, but I have to do a legit cost vs benefit analysis for my specific situation, and a new bike just doesn't fit it right now. E bike money definitely isn't there haha.

100% Riding anything > a brand new 10k bike sitting there collecting dust

Upgraded to a dropper post and new-to-me Rockshox SIDelux shock. Gonna take them out this afternoon to try.

Of course as soon as I got the parts on, my wife suggests using some of the tax return for me to get a new bike... I'll see how the upgrades to and see if I can live with this bike for a bit longer

Young me wanted a Kona Stinky so badly! Good snag!
Thanks! It’s working pretty good.l, especially with the updates I’ve done.

The new shock was SUCH a huge improvement. The lockout is a game changer for climbs. I took 57 seconds off a climb that I have been hovering around the mid 18-20 minute mark. 17:17! So stoked on it. When the lockout was off, the shock is so much more plush, and felt like I had so much more rolling speed because I wasn’t bouncing off babyheads, but rolling over them in a controlled way. I need to reduce pressure in the dropper post because my 150# isn’t often enough to lower it without a bounce to get it moving lol.

Moorpark from the golf course to the hitching post up Happy Camp is a great "how is my endurance improving" ride. As much as I always hatted it, it is a great constant. The trail down used to be fun but I don't know current status. I had to rake out the ruts on it a bunch.

a 27.5 fork even in the same travel will probably be an overall improvement as it will slack out the front some getting it closer to 2016 geometry. You could go wild and put a 27.5 wheel up front for a mini mullet.
I will probably be building my 26" dirt jumper with a 27.5 fork when I start that.

You should reach out to Jessica Farrell and start doing some rides with the Moorpark team. They would probably be stoked to get another teacher out there. I think they are near the end of season though. I could get you her info if interested.

I'll have to look into that area. I saw E and Mikey just rode there the other morning. It would be nice to get a ride in before work so I can do other stuff in the afternoon, especially as the weather starts heating up. It looks like there are a couple of fun routes down from the top.

Honestly, I may do a mullet setup. It's been hard finding a fork with my specs and for a 20mm axle. Would be easier to just grab a new front wheel and fork setup.

I'm not sure who she is, but it would be fun to ride with the MHS team every now and then.
