Anyone have an idea of how close tone ring “teeth” can be to each other, as well as how thick the ring needs to be? I’m planning on putting a tone ring in place of a seal retainer inside the rotor. Since it’s small, and 1:1 ratio vs the ring gear where the ring used to be, I’m ass-u-me’ing it needs to have the same amount of teeth as the big ol’ ring that used to be on the 8.8 ring gear. This makes the teeth and gaps very small.

You think this’ll work?

I can’t answer many of your questions but I do know at some point RPM plays a role in tooth spacing and size.
Would doing the math on gear ratio and putting the tone ring on the output yoke be a better option?

That was my first thought and still might do it that way, but it’s a slip yoke into the trans so I’d need to get a thicker ring water jet cut or machined most likely to account for the 3/4” or so of axle plunge to keep teeth in front of the sensor at all times. This might be a situation where too many rpms will mean the “teeth” are too small. But I can test it on jackstands pretty easily I think before getting too far into it.

Look at champagne dream I think is the thread name on here, similar to cbrewer’s but a friend just ended up making his own. Think solo or desolate gave him a calculation to go off of for the number of teeth.
