smog exemptions moving from 1974 to 1990 and more....

I really hope this goes through. The 2 groups of people that are driving 25+ old vehicles are enthusiasts who have found creative but annoying ways around smog crap and low income people who cant afford something newer and really get screwed by the current system of disposable good running vehicles with a random CEL on. CA is losing insane amounts of money because of how many people register vehicles out of state do to the hurdles and $mog we are forced to jump through for CA plates

Yup easy reg and no smog. Inky worry is neighbors or cops seeing you're driving out of state vehicle and living here. Doesn't affect me in my small desert town just saves me $230 a yr on my duramax

thats the biggest problem with out of state plates in california. CARB and CHP are on to that and know about dirtlegal also.. so , as long you live in a remote area or dont drive it much you are fine. oh, wait, if your truck is older, why not get classic car insure it and be legal. that part of the bill does suck but it is what it is.

if it is not that old yet, i would look at the CARB website and look at the map for smog. there are some areas in california that do not require any smog like salt and see area. by a cheap property, put a mail box. then you can still have a cal driver license and truck reg all match. then rent the address to your buddy's to us the mail box.

many other states will do the same thing.

normally i would not think this SB will pass in this state, but... with the political environment we have now, i think it will. CARB has already resended 2 big regulations just in the last 6 months. both they already passed with future effective dates but now. the people in power told CARB to lay low and dont bring extra attention to cal. one that made big news late last year for new refinery regulations that would of raised fuel cost by .40-.60/gallon.

Yeah I could get them registered in smog only on transfer locations but I don't want to pay crazy CA Reg cost on the diesel plus CEL and HP tuners so won't pass smog anyways.

I'm tempted to make a montana llc and "rent" my truck from it but I really don't want to deal with getting it registered here again IF I have to. I bet MOST of the pre90 post 74 cars and trucks that are still running around with CA plates aren't actually getting smogged might as well drop the requirement and keep collecting the reg fees.

Yeah or go Domicile in South Dakota and get SD drivers license than you're just in CA visiting family if you get pulled over

Yeah register it out of state to an LLC and then lease it from them so you aren't the actual owner of the vehicle. Part of lease agreement is you provide insurance on it too so they can't say shit, but still will

Its still moving along. they got rid of the collector car insurance mandate which is great and Jay Leno continues pushing this along which is super helpful for exposure. we just need to stay positive and contact your gov reps in support. The YouTube channel above has been tracking this very closely.

All I know is if this does fully pass I'm gonna be pissed I sold my 76 F150 Supercab rust free truck for what I sold it for since it needed smog so nobody wanted it.
