Hey first post on any type of forum.
I’ve got a 92 obs f150 that I’m doing swing steering on. Or trying anyway. First time attempting it. I’m at a point where I’m kind of stumped and could use some input from experienced people.
In the front I’m running Giants equal length beams, factory D44 knuckles, and a set of DIY cut files swingers I cut out. Building my own pitman arm, and steering ears off the factory D44 knuckles. I know welding to cast can be pretty sketchy but I’m doing quite a bit of plate work to hopefully make sure they stay put. But I don’t want to spring for a fabricated set at the moment.
The issue I’m having while trying to keep straight tie rods is full bump and lock toward driver side I get 1.5 turns to the left (lock to lock is 2 left 2 right) and about 55 degrees of steerig angle, and the tie rod crashes into the double shear plate of the pitman arm as well as the lower portion of the swinger. Ive pulled the steering ears pretty far forward and down quite a bit. More than I’m comfortable since they’re cast. The spread between Beam pivot and steering swinger is the same at the hub center to steering ear also. And rather than moving the steering box up into the engine bay, is there anything else I should try doing before giving in and bending the tie rods? Otherwise there is very minimal bump steer if any throughout the travel.

You have high angle misalignment spacers on the heims at the swingers, get regular bearing reducers with a narrower spread and you’ll be able to make the swingers narrower

Would they not want to be high misalignment, due to the high offset between the driver and passanger swinger?

I guess I wouldn’t know until I tried. The only tube that of concern there is the drag link I guess. Makes sense.

Get the steering box out of the way. Narrow spacers like Dialed said, don't be afraid to have a slight horizontal bend in the tie rod. I use 1.25'' x .375''wall with 7/8 heims and delrin anti wobble shims at the swingers.

Dang that looks so clean! Yeah it seems like it’s getting to that point where I need to move the box up. Alright I’ll look into narrowing up the swingers as well. Thank you guys
