As some of you have seen, I sold the Chevy. The truck had become more of a project than I wanted to continue with, and I didn’t see myself using it to its full potential. It was the classic case of building something so extreme that it stopped being enjoyable for what I actually wanted to do with it.

So that brings me to what i wanted for a new rig. I wanted something that could do it all, run the go-fast desert stuff, play in the rocks, and not be a trailer queen. I wanted something I could comfortably drive on long camping trips and still wheel when I got there along with drive it home.

A buddy of mine sent me the perfect truck. It belonged to a friend of his who was thinking about selling it. It was a solid deal and checked all the boxes for what I wanted, so much so that I bought it sight unseen.

Here it is:

2012 Ram 2500 Power Wagon
  • 5.7 HEMI
  • 8-speed swapped with ZF 8HP75
  • Factory 4.56’s, Front and rear lockers with SmartBar bypass
  • PSC steering box ready for hydro assist
  • Dynatrac Free-spin hubs
  • Tom Woods driveshafts
  • Skids and sliders
  • Thuren front bumper with Baja Designs LP9s and Squadrons along with the factory winch
  • Rear Mercenary bumper

Suspension:
  • 3.0 front / 2.5 rear 2 tube King shocks
  • Thuren Track bar
  • Thuren Drag link
  • Thuren Alien long arms
  • Thuren Coils
  • Thuren Full long-travel replacement leaf packs
  • Boogie bumps front and rear
  • Yokohama Geolandar X-MT 37x13.50R17s on Raceline’s

Of course I took it out the first weekend I had it. The only major issue was the transfer case linkage popping out of the bushing. No big deal, I zip-tied it back in and kept going. Other than that, there are a few bugs I want to iron out and some things I’d like to change, but overall I’m extremely happy with it.

If your rear shocks are in the normal ram reservoir down mounting I would look into the CJC shock skids. Especially if they are the same billet remote mounts like mine. The Carli style use a elbow which mounts the reservoir up a little higher. I caught a rock and removed a reservoir on mine on the last obstacle on Gold Mountain. I was able to flip them traditional with a little bit of frame clearance after having @the_fablab_ repair it. I think just the passenger side modification is needed.

I know one person who took out a front reservoir mounted that way, but I think it was on 4dice and our trucks have no business playing on those rocks. You could probably build something off your bumper to incorporate protection. Mine is the same and I will build something in if I ever get around to making a winch bumper... If I ever get the manual swap completed...
