Was talking with @Cleandezert about him having a battery blow up on him while charging In his trailer in the desert.

Just had another buddy also Adam @dangler88 have a battery go.

Anyone one else have issues with this? I've heard about this over the years always thought it was a bit of a freak accident.. Now I'm shopping Lipo Charging bags. 🥴

I'm very interested in this also because in the RC car world these bags are very popular and I want to look into getting one for my RC car batteries. One of these small batteries blowing up or even just starting a small fire can destroy the entire house

When I moved to lipo I bought a bag out of fear 😆

Small one I put battery in while charging. I only own traxxas lipos at this point so far, but quite a few.

The fire issues or blowups is while charging right? So many electronic gadgets, toys and such now have lithium batteries… kids have those razor elec dirt bikes and they always make me wonder while I leave charging over night

I had a buddy lose a garage full of nice stuff because of a lipo battery fire. I always use a battery bag. I am over cautious i have one I use when charging and one I use to store and transport.

What charger are yall using? I used to have a battman smart charger but I sold it years ago. Now I am suing the same one with Tenergy branding.

I bought one about a year ago after around 10 years not using one. Figured for $20ish why not. I’ve got some old Lipos that are super puffed up that I keep in it, I need to get rid of them 😆 (now feeling anxious as I look at my new SCX24 charging on my laptop 😂)

RDX mini. Automatic and its a Balance charger. Tla balance charge is the most important part of any charger for these LiPO batteries. It balances each cell while charging and is way safer than those little USB chargers you get with the scx24.The First generation usb chargers that came out with it scx24s would catch on fire and melt.

I think I paid about 40 bucks for this charger. Factory output of this charger is xt60 yellow connector that you see and I made an adapter that goes from xt60 to jst and changed all the connectors on my batteries to jst. The ph2 connectors seemed cheesy to me.

You can adjust the amperage output along with type of battery you're charging with this charger and everything is automatic. It can put a balance charge and it can put a storage charge and it can also discharge a battery. Has a built in fan.

Definitely get a bag or box and don't leave it plugged in unattended. My buddy had half of his house burn down with an RC battery explosion.

We charge our batteries in an old metal craftsman tool box with the lid shut on a concrete floor away from flammable items. I know someone that los their garage with a classic car. Another that lost half their house. we really need to get the bags. I will probably still put them in the metal box. we also use a balanced charger.

how come its the rc car batteries exploding? Does this happen to lipo batteries in rvs or the one i just put in my fraptor?

The chemistry is different on the big batteries. I grabbed a renogy 100ah for my truck that is LiFePO which is supposed to be less explod-ie.

My shop neighbor in Phoenix Gruber Motor Company needed this since they had their shop burn down twice because they used some hot wired battery charger to try and fix Tesla batteries that software wouldn't let charge. Now they have a dedicated shipping container in parking lot for charging stuff, which is their own battery "Bag" in a way.

I know Lance who started Pirate4x4 had a RC battery burn his RV when driving and it was charging in the back
