Saturday and Sunday I’m light on pics.
We came back down the canyon, we let the sons drive a bit on the graded road back to Ballarat. Some drunk on a stool at Ballarat told me my truck would be cooler with an LS in it….go figure
25 miles back up the pavement Saturday morning to Panamint Springs resort for fuel and Ice, it was warm, mid 80s.
Then we turned east, climbed a big mountain pass, got into Emigrant pass. We stopped at mine and did some hydrating while the kids explored.
It was about this time I got word from @WW_RANGER_X that weather was brutal down in Cal City.
We got some clouds and sprinkles but we were optimistic we could find refuge from the wind if we found some trees.
After the mine we rattled down a few more miles of washboard to Aguerberry point. That was a killer view of all Death Valley and was worth the excursion.
Quick stop at the Charcoal Kilns (no pictures)
We got up to Mohogany Flat campground at 8,000’ about 4:30pm Saturday. It was first come first served and we managed to grab 5 camp spots.
This camp ground is a staging place for people making the 14 mile round trip hike to Telescope Peak (11,000’)
Sun sank low, wind died down, had a nice fire and lit the BBQ for a beautiful night up in the pines.
Sunday morning was chilly. We all broke camp uneventfully and were on the road by 8:30am.
By the time we got back to Panamint valley I could look up at Telescope peak and it looked stormy, we left just in time.
We all leapfrogged past each other on the way home as we aired up and fueled up on our own schedules.
I use a Terra Trip rally computer as an auxiliary odometer, 615 miles door to door round trip.
No mechanical issues, only burnt gas, burnt propane, a few dozen empty crispy boys and an empty bottle of Buffalo Trace. Solid trip in the books.
